Missoula on September 13 reports C M Reardon aiding two pedestrians. As they walked, one man pulled a gun, forced Reardon to surrender about $400 in checks and cash, then the trio disappeared. Reardon could not identify the assailants.
Miss Velmar King, formerly a Dillon schoolteacher, died in Lincoln Nebraska after typhoid fever contracted during a visit with her sister. She was en route to Dillon to marry deputy sheriff Will Ross of Beaverhead County. Miss Snyder, another local teacher, was present at her death. The remains likely will be sent to Florida for interment.
Great Falls program notes Harold Stuart a 19 year old charged with vagrancy and placed under a 15 day home curfew with 20 days jail suspended for violation. Magistrate Sheppard cited family distress and warned nightly loitering must stop reporting to the judge daily at 9 AM.
W A Clark, now in Honolulu, recalls his 1866 Montana journey from Helena to Bentonsport via Port Benton, detailing Mackinaw boats on the Missouri and Indian country, the Overland State Coach route limits, and a homecoming to Connelaville after years in the west. Great Falls Montana September 13 The internal revenue act on confiscation of cars used for illegally transporting liquor remains in effect Judge George Bourquin held in federal court in the case of the Reo auto owned by Adolph Levendis awaiting decision by the Supreme Court The court ruled section 3450 still applies allowing confiscation despite third party claims The Automobile Warehouse and Service Co of Helena filed a third party claim with a conditional bill of sale The decision hinges on the Yuginovich case and the court noted that that ruling does not cancel the provision The act provides for confiscation regardless of third party interests Proceedings are underway against two other cars with no third party claim in federal court

Gilman Sept 33 a barn used by Elmer B Olson for a transfer business burned to the ground about 2 am. Bill Cunniff discovered the blaze while approaching the village and alerted others who rushed to save the structure and horses. No wind helped prevent spread. no other buildings damaged. Axel Swanson owned the barn and Electric hotel, the area’s last major fire, and insurance was reportedly covering the barn.
Glasgow dispatch reports settlers on Milk River lands circulating a petition to remove Dr. Newall as head of the national reclamation service. They urge placing the system under the agricultural department citing misdirected funds, wrong canal sites, and poor treatment of settlers.
Great Falls report Sept 13 describes two Red Lodge men John Cornelia and W V Bates nabbed near Havre on September 4 while transporting 82 pints of Pebbleford whiskey toward Red Lodge Mont in Canada. Prohibition agents bound them over to U S court. Cornelia released on 500 bond Bates on 250 bond.
