The body of Archie McMillan, drowned August 24 at the Pend d Oreille River’s first falls, was recovered at noon. Ben Cramer located the body in swift white water after seeing a disturbance in the whirlpool and secured it with a rope. The remains were badly battered, clothing sparse, and interment is planned at Mutte.
In Tutic Sept 5. M T Walt of the American Pulp and Paper association said a paper mill may be established soon in the Flathead region using timber from Deer Lodge national forest. Fay G Clark and forestry officials discussed sustaining timber growth to support a mill. The association is investigating prospects as Canada embargoes paper exports due to shortages.
Missoula district receives six crates of ring necked pheasants from Oregon. Viranius L. Marlowe of the state fish and game commission says two crates go to Grass Valley two to Stevensville and two to Lolo. The birds, raised in Oregon, are released under state game laws with no open season.
Bozeman dispatch notes 1920 21 session opens September 28 29 with registration and classes starting September 30. Attendance 16 to 22 percent higher than last year amid many faculty changes due to resignations and funding limits. New coach D V Graves appointed to lead athletic teams. English department appoints Duddy and Doris McCart Int. several home economics and science appointments.
An inspection of the fish hatchery on Fish Creek near Salmon Lake was conducted by the local fish and game association. J. H. Brunson state superintendent of fish hatcheries accompanied by Mr. Alar Jone praised the hatchery as having one of the best locations in Montana and proposed inviting an expert fish culturist in February with trout eggs from casters brooks.
Forty five thousand square miles of oil and gas structures in Montana have been surveyed under C H Chipm and President Clapp of the Montana State School of Mines. The northern section remains partly incomplete with about LOGO square miles to go. The survey, begun in June, aided by Rain Wade and conducted by G S Lambert and Arthur Bevan, aims to map wells and eliminate wildcat probes while Clapp balances school duties with survey duties.
Missoula Sept. 5 By the margin of two votes the regular democrats of Missoula county gained control of the county democratic committee over the Nonpartisan and labor teague factions. The official count by County Clerk W J Babington finished at the office. Eight committeemen remain to be appointed in precincts with no election. With control, the regulars likely will increase membership by appointing anti league men to fill vacancies.

Butte police and sheriff deputies pursue Joh Conuss an escaped Deer Lodge convict who allegedly escaped city limits after stealing an automobile and a tire in Butte. He registered at the Doyle block under an alias Williams and was seen leaving Friday morning. The car was found abandoned in Butte and later returned to Deer Lodge. the tire was recovered by Detective Kimball. Conuss, a trusted Deer Lodge employee, had been serving an intermediate sentence for embezzlement and was last reported near Deer Lodge before vanishing.
My Agrariated Press reports arrangements for a post season series between the pennant winners of the American association and the International league. J. J. Hickey says the plan includes a nine game series with the winner of five taking the flag. Discussions with International league officials are set for Buffalo Tuesday to finalize details.
Faris September 3 The American athletes dominated the water contests at the Faris Olympic Trials. Duke Shahaimoky set a world record in the 106 meters, finishing in one minute flat. Hibelda Ulaibtray of New York defeated Suzanne Wurtz the French champion, and Nordan Ross of Chicago won the 400 meters in five minutes 57 3 5 seconds.
Bert Replogle, who lost the Democratic primary for Fergus county clerk, has been nominated by the Republican party for the same office. A World War II veteran badly crippled from injuries in France, he benefited from in-party cross filings and may face the league-backed opponent in the election.
