Berlin reports swift Nazi advances over the Polish corridor and Silesian highlands as German forces press toward the Vistula. Diplomatic tensions rise as Poland breaks relations. Sweden and the Netherlands assume Polish affairs in Germany and Netherlands offices.
Deputy weights and measures official J J O Connor was narrowly spared after a truck loaded with wood rear ended his car at a grade crossing near Manhattan. The impact pushed the vehicle against a pole. the truck driver Carl Texbert of Folrucid was fined 250 for reckless driving.
The British cabinet met after an historic parliamentary session delaying a declaration of war on Germany for Mussolini peace proposals. London reports suggest a noon meeting for Chamberlain to present new moves from Premier Mussolini and possible French input, with cabinet secrecy surrounding the outcome.

A crowded East Helena opens its three day celebration with three Duneball games and a boxing card at the ball park. Races, pie contest and street entertainment are planned with additional boxing tonight. The event marks BL years of city history and showcases East Helena’s civic spirit and baseball pride.

The second annual observance begins at 11 AM with a parade forming at Main Street head, led by local patrol and fire departments, with floats entered by local lodges and groups.

London reports Britain will set a time limit on Germany’s reply to the British French last warning as a midnight cabinet meeting raises the possibility of war. Paris frames demands for withdrawal of German troops from Poland as $1 636 000 000 is allocated. Berlin says German troops push into the Polish corridor and Silesia with many Polish cities bombed. Warsaw tallies 21 civilian deaths from raids. 10 killed in 94 raids over two days, with 23 Reich planes shot down. Washington officials see a faint chance war may be averted as President Roosevelt prepares a radio address.
