Windstorm isolates towns and claims Hobson rancher life
A fierce western Montana windstorm cut power and communications, isolating several towns including Corvallis and Kalispell. About 400 motorists were stranded as the Great Falls Belt Highway was blocked by snow. Frank Haack, 59, a Hobson rancher, died of a heart attack while digging out his car. Fire destroyed a large department store in Corvallis. Communication was limited to short wave radio as lines lay down and fire crews battled blazes.
