Mrs Courtland Howard daughter Mary and her father Samuel Montgomery were questioned in Reno as investigators fly in to pursue the case. A night flight from San Francisco to Reno followed.
Washington November 21 Press correspondents assigned to the Treasury protested Acting Secretary Morgenthau s ruling that all information from multiple agencies must pass through five designated channels to newspaper men The department faced private resentment from officials as correspondents telegrammed President Roosevelt protesting the order which barred all but Morgenthau and his assistant from disclosing departmental information The president was silent at Warm Springs where Roosevelt was spending his time
San Francisco November 21. Four Californians are sued in federal court by Montana’s superintendent of banks seeking to compel payment to stockholders in the defunct Elling State Bank of Virginia City Montana. Defendants include Mabel M Hult Rita M Chon Alma da Charlotte Fenner Palo Alto and Henry Elling Arey Medmont. Suit led for 3904 dollars by Frank H Johnson.
Dr O M W Sprague, special financial advisor to the treasury, resigns in protest against Roosevelt monetary policy predicting unrestrained inflation and a collapse of government credit. He urges aroused public opinion as defense against anticipated disaster from raising commodity prices by bolstering money value of gold.
Santa Cruz Calif Nov 21 The death penalty was asked for Mrs Frieda Weltz 43 year old nurse charged with slaying her former employer. Francis J M Grace district attorney Frank Murphy began argument to the jury late today.
