A day after a deadly quake, Ancona shows signs of rising from rubble while Senigallia endures its heaviest impact. The death toll remains four with about 200 injured officially. a second aftershock causes minor additional damage as residents begin rebuilding amid widespread homelessness.
The 1930 Willam Lawrence Saunders gold medal was presented tonight to Daniel C. Jackling of San Francisco, president of the Utah Copper company, at a dinner of mining engineers and executives from many parts of the world. The Saunders medal is awarded annually by the American Institute of Mining and Metallurgical Engineers for achievement in mining. It was presented to President Hoover in 1528. John Hays Hammond, holder of the 15929 medal, was toastmaster at the dinner.
E A Lohrke, former Butte lawyer now in Phoenix, was cited by the Arizona Supreme Court to show cause why his license should not be revoked. A petition charged unprofessional conduct inclduing selling two shares of Copper State Senators stock without authority and taking a filing fee for a divorce action never filed. Lohrke must appear before the court November 12 to answer.
Washington October 31 final pre election campaign reports reveal Republicans declaring about 29 748 in additional expenditures while Democrats list about 7 000. The Republican committee gained 25 000 from the Republican National Committee and the Democratic fund relies mainly on 6 090 from Morton L Shwarts of New York and 2 000 from M J Meehan Company of New York.
Washington Oct 11 A jury took just over a half hour to acquit Herbert M Campbell a Virginia real estate dealer charged with killing Navy department clerk Mary Baker Campbell showed a broad grin after the verdict claiming his gun did not strike Baker and that he still maintains his innocence The case drew wide attention in the capital as details emerged during the trial
Omaha reports the postoffice department is drawn into Senator Norris re election fight after Torne Browne Nebraska director of the National Electrical LIght Association asks postal Inspectors to probe how a letter from J B Wootan of Chicago reached Norris. Wootan edits Public Service Magazine and the letter allegedly concerns wire tapping. Browne alleges the letter was intercepted before reaching his Lincoln office. Norris welcomes investigation, noting prior mall tapping theories.
Glasgow October 31 AP Application for appointment of a guardian for Mrs Anna Arnot charged with the murder of her husband was heard by District Judge John Murry Love after a sharing. Arnot a former Glasgow banker died August 17 from poisoning. She was arrested a month later on a murder charge. Defense sought a guardian claiming mental and physical incapacity. Prosecution argued the move would prejudice a fair trial. In hospital Arnot was moved from county jail after illness and is reported improved.
London Oct 31 The Maree Donald government secured its first parliamentary victory by defeating an extreme Labour amendment to the address. The debate touched on regrets that the speech from the throne hints at socialist rearrangement of industry. A diversion arose with Edwin Scrymgeour introducing a prohibition bill, calling himself the sole prohibitionist, while the government proceeded with the measures to curb production and sale of intoxicating liquor.
Washington Oct 31 AP The farm board renewed efforts to cut acreage for wheat and cotton. A bulletin urged production by domestic consumption and warned acreage curtailment could raise returns. The slogan Grow Less and Get More was recommended to farmers nationwide.Continued on page 7.
Pilot Crank Dorbandy resumed search flights from Hard River for Captain F. A. Hurky and two others missing since October 1 after departing Atlin for Paddy Lake 69 miles north. Dorbandy, forced to delay by rope line shortages, will press on with motor and dog team support.
Great Falls Oct 31 crowds jammed Grand theater to hear Senator Walsh and Governor Erickson speak. The event drew prominent local supporters including Tom Stout and Justice John A Mat hone. The crowd cheered repeatedly as speakers paused for long applause and Democratic leaders hosted receptions outside.
One of the few churchmen in history to head a national government, Man-Agnore Behramek was newly named prime minister of Czechoslovakia. Former minister of churches, he has now been asked by President Masarak to form a new cabinet.
Improvement noted today in the condition of Archbishop Auntht Dowling of St Paul diocese of the Roman Catholic Church. He remains under care as physicians monitor his health and expect gradual recovery. The brief bulletin gives no further details on treatment or prognosis.

Kansas City report says Paul T. L. Kauffman was found guilty of first degree murder in the death of 17 year old Avil Woolery of Webb City Missouri. A criminal court jury deliberated less than an hour before sentencing him to death.
Aviatrix Juanita Burns appeared in the San Gabriel county court today for a check forgery hearing. At her request, the case was continued to November. She was granted bail of $2,000. The forgery charge stems from a San Gabriel cleaning shop owner who alleges a worthless $5 check.
Captain McLean recounts Henry Ford paid 500000 for the yacht Stalla and spent 1600000 to speed it up, but after Detroit builders altered the vessel it still moved only about a fourth as fast as Ford’s four cylinder cars. The Stalla, built in Wilmington in 1919, later served in coast patrol during the war. A. M. Andrews of New York owns the yacht now.
Four men escaped the R 101 disaster near Beauvais recount a terrifying moment before the crash. Engineers A J Cook H H Litech and V o Savory and radio operator Arthur Tisley testified. The court considered the harrowing recollections as it investigated the disaster.
In Yetratt Oct 81 a Presbyterian commission on marriage divorce and remarriage held a meeting to guide leadership on marriage issues. Chairman the Rev Rulon Marshall Davin of Erle Pa said critics offer remedies that attack core Christian morals.
Oklahoma City October 31. An army of about five hundred men including military and civil guards moved to protect the city from a huge wild oil well near the No 1 O. E. L. float. The well has spewed oil and gas over the area, forcing suspension of business and order to evacuate nearby homes and close six schools.
New York dispatch cites Nan king sources reporting officials of the Nationalist ministry of foreign affairs pushing hard to secure the release of captives held by bandits and Communists in remote regions of China. Authorities say a nationwide hunt for bandits and rebels is under way.
President Green outlines six construction drives to tackle unemployment. White House release cites total federal spending of roughly 467.8 million dollars on public works, naval and military building, and shipping board loans. Additional contracts worth about 376.8 million to be issued soon.
Tintchinson Kansas Oct 31 Vice President Charles Curtis announced the stationing of an undercover prohibition agent in the Senate office building. Curtis said the agent was employed by the secretary of the Senate with full cooperation of officials, and he approved the appointment. Dr James M Doran in Washington said he sent the agent to the building at authorities’ request to curb bootlegging activities. Curtis stated any law violator would be found and punished.
Atlanta, Ga Oct 31. Southern temperatures dipped to freezing as snow flurries touched three border states and frosts crept far south toward the gulf coast. Kentucky Tennessee and Virginia report light snows with frigid readings extending to northern Louisiana and Mississippi.
In Rio de Janeiro on October 3 a provisional president of Brazil was hailed as a conqueror after the short lived Thr align Reg regulation. Washington Lute the acting president in Washington was reportedly imprisoned in Ferin Co as Rao faced détention and uncertainty in the capital.
Chicago October 31 A sudden illness forced Mayor William Hale Thompson into surgery for acute appendicitis. The Republican leader was rushed to a hospital as a crowd gathered downtown to hear his campaign remarks. An operation was performed promptly and at 2 PM a bulletin reported no immediate cause for alarm.
