Washington May 26 The Supreme Court ruled that a citizenship applicant must take an oath to fight for the United States if necessary. The decision centers on Marie A Mand and Douglas Clyde Mac Intosh with Justice Sutherland delivering the majority. Chief Justice Hughes dissented.
Oakland May 25 Edward J Gallagher an 18 year old junior high student did not want to go to school. He stayed home brooded. When his sister returned from school this afternoon she found his body. He had shot himself in the head with a .22 rifle.
In Los Angeles on May 25 a warrant was issued charging Jocelyn Lee with disturbing the peace after a city complaint said she invaded a Hollywood party, smashed windows and dented walls with her slipper heel. Judge Georgia Bullock set bail at 100 dollars.
In Calis, May 25, Sheriff George Campbell and Undersheriff Rodney Clark led a desert search for 68 year old prospector Peter Gunderson. After following a desert trail about 25 miles into the Chincolate mountain region on horses and trucks, investigators said the trail was not in volcanic rock and that hope was nearly exhausted.
Ohio State University trustees declined to renew the contract of Herbert A. Miller head of the sociology department since 1925. Miller confirmed his dismissal but did not comment. Officials also refused to comment. Miller had been linked to Gandhi era nationalist campaigns and opposed compulsory military training for students. Trustees reaffirmed support for compulsory training and President Rightmire urged faculty and students that critics could choose to leave.
Morrin Morgenstern of Cleveland arrived in San Francisco and said he will organize Franklin D Roosevelt for President. He expects Roosevelt to be the Democratic nominee and next president, while noting strong competition from Owen D. Young of New York and Governor Albert C. (T)utenberg of Maryland. He claimed Ohio delegates to the Democratic national convention will pledge to Roosevelt.

Vandalia Illinois Sunday night chaos at the state prison left four dormitories burned and the kitchen and tractor shop damaged. Four prisoners were wounded in the disturbance with three shot by guards after a 12 foot fence breach. A fourth inmate suffered a gunshot wound to the arm from a stray cat.

In San Francisco on May 28 Mrs Bernice Foley formerly of Nebraska confessed to police that she killed her two children Patricia Tor 8 and Robert 6 because they were starving. She was brought into municipal court for arraignment on marier changes and returned to prison in serious condition after being found about to drown herself in the ocean. Police found the children's bodies in a dingy back room of her coffin shop. She said they would be better off and sobbed in her cell, claiming she did not want them buried in the potter's field.
Demonstrators in Havana numbered over twenty five engaged in several demonstrations in downtown Havana today, storming the Spanish consulate. They grouped before a newspaper office, shouting at officials and calling for repatriation as they threatened to occupy a hotel. Local authorities prepared to address the unrest.

The Bt Rev Bishop George J Finnegan of Helena spoke on the laymen's second annual retreat to be held at Helena this summer. A banquet followed. Daughters of Isabella reelected all state officers and chose Butte as the 1932 meeting place.
New York May 25. The Brony county grand jury indicted Harry Steiy and Daniel Greenberg alias Greenhauser for the strangling death of Vivian Gordon. The body was found Feb 26 in a Van Courtlandt Park thicket. Authorities seek motive beyond robbery. Chauffeurarry Schutten testified he drove the death car and named Steiy and Greenberg as slayers. Greenberg remanded to jail after pleading to the indictment.
Lawrence Massachusetts May 25 Russell B Noble a 17 year old Waverhill high school student was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of Mrs Clara E C Elisa a wealthy Haverhill widow. He pleaded guilty to murder stating she was attacked in her boudoir late one winter night by a marauder who bore her about the room.
Seattle city council refused a petition led by Rev. Mark A. Matthews to close 120 city public card rooms. Councilman James Scavotto said the rooms served working men as social halls and that no gambling was permitted.
