Washington May 25 AP Hen Swofford a 16 year old Kansas City Missouri student won the sixth national oratorical contest before five justices of the supreme court. Lee Miller 16 of Maywood New Jersey finished second and Lucille Fletcher 17 of Brooklyn New York finished third.
Anaconda May 25 AP Preparations are under way for Montana’s annual state golf tournament to be held July 24 to 28 at the Anaconda Country Club. The course features a rare allegrass layout as the tournament committee announces plans.
Evanston May 25 A spiked shoe patter and a lunge at the tape produced two world records and a strong team win for Illinois as Northwestern hosts the Western conference outdoor track meet. Eddie Tolan of Michigan and Dick Rockaway of Ohio State beat or flirted with world marks while George Simpson of Ohio State looked to tie one. Illinois led with 1111-2 points, Ohio State second 39.5, Michigan third 33, Iowa fourth 4.2 as two marks fell and another tied amid a light tail wind.
President Hoover and party strayed from the White House route en route to a former family farm near Frederick Maryland. Guides directed them back to the main road after a detour through rural lanes. They paused in a hamlet to ask directions as locals gathered around the presidential car.
In Butte on May 25 AP report says E A Dossow rancher near Gallatin Valley was caught with a pint of moonshine. Judge George M Bourquin set ten cents as the minimum federal fine for liquor law violations in this district, noting the bottle contained only a quarter pint. Donsson had served 30 days in jail.

He offered no further details. Rioting had accompanied the strikes which began April 15.
The Nich olas Senn High School band of Chicago won Class A in the national high school band contests in Denver. Modesto High School of Modesta Cal was second. Lansing Vocational High School of Lansing Mich won Class B, with Belvidere High School of Belvidere Ill second.

Talks between Dr Hjalmar Schacht and Allied delegates yielded no tangible results as Owen D Young urged a safe settlement on his annuities and left reparations distribution to the concerned governments.
Frank Keppler, 20, former Mount St. Charles College and Butte Central high school star, died in an oil field accident near Los Angeles after leaving Mount St. Charles last Christmas. He was a right guard on the 1927 college team and planned priesthood studies next fall.
Lincoln Nebraska May 25 Wheret 8 Tatrow who sometimes goes by DeForest visited a friend at the state reformatory for men and was arrested by State Sheriff Condit. He is held for the sheriff of Douglas Wyoming on allegations he absconded from Douglas in a mortgaged car according to the sheriff.
