Washington May 23 The Dies committee heard from Georgi F Dratherage national commander of the White Camelias who cited an international anti communist movement in Italy and Germany. The witness questioned oath legality and membership while deriding the committee and provoking an uproar from the audience.
Billings May 23 (4) Three wool clips totaling 19200 fleeces at about 300000 pounds were sold today at prices ranging from 24 to 24 cents per pound. Hal Smyder at Hildage sold his 11000 fleece clip to Henry Gould ombany of Boston at 24 cents a pound. The Reports Sheep Company clip of 2000 fleeces and Snyder Sheep Company clip of 17500 fleeces were bought by Sherman and Lone of Chicago at 24 cents per pound. The flats were believed among the highest paid in the area this year.
Los Angeles May 23 Pope Pius XI named Mrs L Dotany widow of B L Dohney a count in the Roman Catholic Church. The chancery of the archdiocese of Los Angeles advised the news indicating strong regard for her late husband and her status within church circles.
Portsmouth NH May 24 divers rushed equipment to seven fast patrol boats to start actual rescue attempts for the Squalus crew entombed in the sunken submarine. Navy divers and Washington experts arrived as hopes rose that the trapped men may still be alive.
