Rome May 10 Pope pledges Catholic hierarchy aid to root out moral books and materials hiding under religious phrases. He urges bishops to combat novels short stories dramas and images promoting passion mysticism and other deemed dangerous.
Florence Bement, 20, formerly of Missoula Montana, was found unconscious in a hotel room on Catalina Island with a fractured skull and an oil cloth typewriter cover. Police pursue details as she lies in critical condition. her family reports she is a fine arts student visiting California.

The seventeenth annual Newsboys Banquet will be held May 28 at Eddy cafe in Helena. Eddie Van, owner of the cafe, announced the event with a program by Daddy Reeves and the boys will be entertained with music. The dinner starts at 8 o clock with the menu to be announced beforehand. This yearly gathering is a much anticipated occasion for the boys.
Salem Oregon May 10 A plea for postponement of the execution of Albert Brownlee who is under death sentence at the state prison has been sent to Governor Patterson by the Montana American Legion via Harry M Johnson Anaconda. The telegram asks for stay with affidavits to show Brownlee is insane He enlisted in the 20th engineers served overseas returned to Libby Montana wounded and shell shocked He sought hospital care Brownlee was convicted of killing a posse member after a holdup near Eugene Oregon.
Paris May 10. Bainbridge Colby former American secretary of state is seeking a divorce in Paris. Mrs Colby who was Nathalie Sedgwick of Stockton Massachusetts at her 1893 marriage is now in New York.
A tornadic and blizzard storm system sweeping from the Rocky Mountains to the Midwest has killed dozens and injured thousands over three days. Reports across states from Louisiana to Missouri list hundreds of millions in damage as weather devastations continue with the tally likely to grow.

Nogales Ariz May 10 The press dispatch reports heavy fighting between Mexican federal soldiers and Yaqui rebels at the Santa Barbara ranch 15 miles south of the border. Federal reinforcements have been sent from Nogales Sonora and the hills are dotted with troops. Airplanes are reported in the Santa Barbara country.
The body of Mrs. Patek Carnew, wife of Ran jana's potato king, who died Monday, was moved to the family home in Waterloo this afternoon. The funeral will be Thursday afternoon at Waterloo with interment in Nish Creek cemetery.
Burglars dynamited the Lindsay Helena warehouse vault stealing 4435 cash and 1795.77 in checks plus cigars candy grape juice. Entry came via skylight after the back door was found open later. police suspect intruders fled before two hours patrols could close the case.

Memphis May 10 17 Secretary Davis of the War Department said the levee system probably will form the basis of future Mississippi valley flood control policy during a visit to discuss with the Mississippi River Commission. He added the government is not pledged to any one plan and all suggested measures will be considered. A public hearing will be held in Memphis to evaluate solutions.
Forest Ranger A. G. Clayton is in serious condition at the Sheridan Creek Station after eating poisoned flour mixed into batter for flapjacks. The incident occurred while preparing breakfast, when the poison intended for rats was accidentally included.
Havre May 10 The Rap ital state convention opened with preliminary business sessions this morning. The ministers welcome and women's auxiliary gathered this afternoon. At the evening meeting T J Hourne presided as president of the state organization, with Hedison of Wings delivering the welcome.
After a coroner's jury labeled Clifford Hicks’s death as at the hands of parties unknown, Glenn Hicks and William Davis were held as accessories. The note passed to Hicks’s widow hinted at threats on the lawyer’s life, while testimonies described the night of April 30 and plans for pallbearers, ominously suggesting inside knowledge of the crime.
Helena police detain Lester and Raymond Gray on kidnapping charges involving Dixie Grace Armstrong. Armstrong was located with the brothers during their arrest. Raymond claims they left Helena for Philipsburg and married there on Saturday. The brothers will be returned to Helena Wednesday.
