London reports claim a Sholapur riot yesterday surpassed all previous disturbances. Police fatalities are cited as three dead, others missing or injured, and rioters possibly killed or wounded in the violence. Civilian walls reportedly collapse as authorities prepare troops.
Flames from a tanker fire at the Gull setting pier caused explosions across a site holding millions of gallons of crude oil and fuel. Seven residents and four city workers were injured as 16 tanks detonated and a drum house shattered. Firemen battled the inferno while a barge sank and the blaze spread toward the pier before being contained.
In Tisadag s Nebraska the Omaha Shrine band performed during a ceremonial dedication when a windstorm tore out a wall of the Shrine temple. Four thousand attendees were struck with fear as bricks collapsed and a strong odor filled the hall. The band music steadied the crowd and the storm subsided into heavy rain.

Washington May 8 A F Seolk McBiride superintendent of the Anti Saloon League told a senate committee that five percent of the league’s volunteers were Texans and that the organization had no contract with President Hoover. He said the league did not advocate for prohibition appointments but supplied information. He noted the league budgeted 272 047 for recruiting support of the prohibition law. McBiride, who succeeded Wayne J Wheeler, spoke amid questions about the league’s past spending of 17 565 413 from 1853 to 1925 and the committee said it would investigate further.
London May 8. Eileen Wilkinson, member of parliament, opened a meeting of women clerks and typists to discuss skirt length. Knee-length skirts won by nine votes after it was revealed only one woman spoke to the press. Wilkinson called long evening skirts a cloud on the national horizon.
Long hunted by Montana stockmen of the Little Delt and Highwood ranges for ten years the white killer wolf died after being shot by Clox and Noll near Al Clox rauh. Two dogs accompanied the stockmen as the animal, weighing about 160 pounds, fled before firing. The foxlike wolf had evaded traps for years and left a $1000 reward plus another 100 offered by individuals and the Montana stockmen’s association for its death.
In St Joseph Missouri on May 3 a massive explosion leveled Armour and Co packing plant smoke house. At least eight killed and ten seriously injured with thirteen missing. A morning firestorm at a Ohio prison dormitory left two inmates dead and a third wounded when accidental gunfire, from a guard’s weapon, shattered the dormitory and blew out a window. The shooters were the rattle of suppressor fire. guards suspected the chaos stemmed from a tented uprising in the yard as inmates fled shelters. Names tied to the two deceased include Robert Free man and Krank joss, both from Cuyahoga County, with extended terms noted. The blaze forced inmates to sleep outside while repairs were made and the guard force sought control.
Report from Langley Field details a violent air crash this afternoon in which multiple Army Air Corps personnel died or were injured.
