All Buyings Put Under Strict Rules

Washington May 3 stiff regulations control ling the installment purchases of nearly every article in common use in the American home were promulgated tonight by the federal reserve board In addition they decreed that ordinary charge accounts involving such articles must be paid up relatively quickly The charge account rules first ever issued governing this type of buying provided that an article must be paid for by the 10th day of the second month following the purchase

Britons Strike Madagascar In Dawn Invasion

Three Million Dollar Airforce Project Authorized in State

Washington May 5. Senator Wheeler and Representative O Connor announced the War department has authorized construction of an air force installation in Montana costing over 3 000 000 dollars. The Fort Peck district office of the corps of engineers will supervise the project. No further details were provided.

Japs Enter China From Burma in Big Guerrilla Drive

Chinese guerrillas surge into 15 Japanese held cities including Shanghai and Nanking in a two week blitz causing widespread destruction. Key targets such as Shanghai’s electric plant and Nanking’s railway were hit as fires raged and communications were cut. Meanwhile Japanese forces cross into Yunnan via Wanting river advancing 500 miles from Burma, with operations aimed at encircling Allied lines and threatening India as bombers raid Yunnan frontier key regions.

Allied bombers hit Lae and Rabaul bases for second day

Allied headquarters reported bombers struck Japanese bases at Lae New Guinea and Rabaul New Britain for a second straight day. Several Japanese planes were caught on the ground at Lae. In San Francisco radios went off air during a 10:18 pm alert with all clear at 10:48 pm. The alert reached Sacramento. Two German war prisoners escaped from a Bowmanville Ontario internment camp. American volunteer fliers shot down eight Japanese planes over Paoshan on the Burma road, per Kunming officials.

German Generals Said Ready To Oust Hitler

London May 5 A group of Adolf Hitler's generals led by Field Marshal Walther von Brauchitsch was reported to have told a trusted source they would propose an alternative plan to Germany if the 1942 campaign in Russia fails. Hitler reportedly accepted the challenge, kept Brauchitsch on the supreme command, and noted his own direct control of armies. The report suggests two interpretations of the move and names several senior commanders said to back Brauchitsch.

Washington May 3 The War Department proposed a 6,000,000 man army while a civilian commissions ban drew approval with a provision to publish names of officers and civilians given commissions every 60 days.
