Medford Ore March 16 UP An information charging Llewellyn A Banks his wife and R A Fleming of Jacksonville with first degree murder for the killing of Constable George Prescott was filed by District Attorney George Codding. Prescott was shot when he served a warrant. Banks and Fleming were in the house when Prescott was shot and were held in the Medford jail. Banks political crusader and editor was confined in the Jo Repine county jail at Grants Pass. Banks was dispossessed of a newspaper yesterday through a sheriff sale. The killing followed a week after a large courthouse yard meeting where Banks warned of taking action unless law and order entered in Jackson county. Banks had demanded wholesale resignations of county officers, charging fraud and dishonesty.
James J. Walker, former New York mayor, filed a general denial to charges raised by Janet Allen Walker in a suit. He is currently in Cannes, France, with Miami attorney Benjamin Cullen said to have filed the answer under endled instructions.

It permits manufacture and sale of beer or wine up to 3.05 percent weight or 28 percent volume with taxes and licensing requirements. The act imposes penalties for importation where not allowed, and restricts sale to underage persons, with penalties including fines and imprisonment.
Spokane Washington March 16 The Northwest Mining Association asks President Roosevelt to fund amateur gold placer work to aid unemployment and boost gold supply. The letter claims western states and Alaska hold vast alluvial gold and that relief funds could support 75,000 to 100,000 workers, potentially tripling with federal help. It proposes including grab staking and mining schools in a $400 million relief bill.

Vatican City March 16 The red hat of the Roman Catholic church was conferred today by Pope Pius in colorful ceremonies at St. Peter's for six prelates created in a secret consistory last Monday. The new cardinals include Pietro Fumasoni-Biondi Rodrigue Villeneuve Angelo Maria Doleri Theodore Innitzer Elia Della Costa and Maruilla Fassati. The public consistory was held at St. Peter's for the first time since 1024 and drew tens of thousands.
