First white male of Montana Jeff Doggett passes away
Jeff 0) Doggett, the first white male born in the Territory of Idaho area that became Montana, died at his Townsend home after a life as a rancher husband father and legislator. Born October 21 1863 in Virginia City he lived as a hardy pioneer aiding Montana’s development. His parents Moses Doggett a Kentucky native and his Ohioan wife arrived in 1863 and Jefferson was born soon after. The family moved from Virginia City toward Townsend as Jeff grew, with his father engaging in gold mining and later sheep ranching.
