In Brawley California on March 1 residents poured into the streets after a sequence of powerful quake shocks. Buildings suffered structural damage with bricks and debris blocking streets while some roofs and coping fell. No serious injuries reported initially and local newspapers paused as crews assessed damage.
A county grand jury indicted six city council members one alderman and several present and former city officers in Atlanta Georgia. The panel charged collusion among public officers and called for the removal of several employees including the mayor, council members, the superintendent of schools and the city manager.
Washington march 1 dent and Mrs Hoover with their son Herbert attended the funeral of Mrs Lawrence Richey, the chief executive's secretary. Services were held at Saint Pauls chapel in Rock Creek. Joseph Bizoo of New York attended as informant.
A sixteen year old youth, armed, fought a posse and wounded three deputies before being killed by Deputy Reymondo Lovato. The confrontation included bombs and torches as authorities attempted to end the barricade at a residence in Belén. The wounded officers were Ignacio Aragon, Charles Cunningham, and Rafael Sanchez.

Nairobi dispatch reports a Welshman and his party entering the Masai reserve in search of elephants. Capt Campbell Black is said to have won a herd of elephants. The prince planned to lead a party into thick bush, leaving Masai territory by night train toward Vol.
Maseaw dispatch reports 137 fishermen lost when an ice floe swept them from a vessel near Abuakhin in the Caapiin sea. Despite air and search parties, no trace of survivors or wreckage has been found.
Washington March 1 AP A senate committee weighs charges of police lax on gambling and bootlegging when a special police guard is assigned to George H Carter head of the government printing office. Carter says he received three death threats in two days over his claim of rampant vice near the printing office. He recounts threats including a Rambler quote about hiring a gunman for five thousand dollars.
Washington March 1 One week from tomorrow a non sectarian mass meeting of clergy and all religious groups in Washington will be held to express sympathy for Russians persecuted for their religious beliefs. Right Rev James E Freeman Episcopal bishop of Washington will preside and deliver the introductory address. Rev Walsh will speak with Edmond A Walsh Georgetown University vice president as principal speaker who has studied in Russia.
Washington report of March 1 states the house elections committee will submit a findings report to recommend seating Ruth Bryan Owen as the representative from Florida fourth district. The action follows debates over her eligibility and the committee’s forthcoming recommendation to the full house.

Former heavyweight champion James J. Dempsey, at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, may begin light training in weeks with a possible return to boxing amid ongoing examinations. Dempsey declined comment on results while doctors offered no immediate verdict. He arrived with representative John Arell and trainer Jerry Luavaa, with a decision likely in forthcoming weeks.
Washington March 1 With the nation saddened by his evident time near William Maynard Taft appeared cheerfully untroubled during a moment of his final illness today. The president spoke briefly and grasped a hand as doctors checked his condition. Physicians reported he slept most of the day with little change in his status.
Fire in Tattle Rock destroyed the Davis Plear Produce company and damaged other concerns in the wholesale district. High winds threatened spread but the blaze was contained. Three people drowned near Lexington when their automobile plunged into the Kentucky River, all residents of Lexington: Mr. and Mrs. Martin Garrison and George Spelth. A fourth person escaped.
Chicago March 1 AP The wheat stabilization corporation an arm of the Federal Farm Board was ordered to stop paying the loan basis value for wheat after talks with Agriculture Secretary Arthur Hyde. It may still buy at market. Alexander Legge said Farmers National Grain Corp will continue to lend to cooperatives until July 1 end of the current crop year on the October basis. The stabilization board may keep buying wheat at market price and release grain if needed to prevent market demoralization.
John W. Poorman, president of the First National Bank, thwarted a bank robbery in Humbolt Illinois. Police from Mattoon joined a pistol battle that left three officers wounded but all officers unharmed. The bandits fled toward Matoon after a long exchange of gunfire.
Marilyn Swenson a 17 year old Seattle girl returned from a year aboard the fur trading schooner Nanak in the Arctic coast to a new fashion scene. She shopped with her mother and sister adopting breeches knee boots and a mackinaw while shedding the long skirts and fluffy items she wore at sea. She also noted weight gained during the voyage and her old clothes no longer fit.
In Los Angeles on March 1 Floren alleged ringleaders of last Wednesday's march on city hall pleaded not guilty to unlawful assembly charges. Their trial was set for March 28. Four teachers were also charged with assaulting police and entered not guilty pleas.
Fargo reports a severe snowstorm with drifts up to ten feet high and icy winds. Highways iced and telephone lines cut, delaying mail service and disrupting church communions across Fargo and surrounding areas.
Detroit reports John Gestalian alias Dr John Sheridan admits to obtaining about 5 000 dollars in counterfeit travelers checks in two weeks around the city. Authorities say he learned the scam in jail, then fled to Mexico for an expert counterfeiter who produced about 160 000 dollars in checks for Mellon National Bank. Total stolen amount not disclosed.
