Madison, 43, auditor for a movie studio, was slain last March 24 by five bullets into his back in the couple's Burbank apartment. Officers elected: Jacob Zeier president, L J Nordheim vice president, H Toftoy secretary treasurer, E H Buck conductor, J N Ashby door keeper. A music program followed, with wives serving cookies and coffee after the session.
The United Aid Society in Corvallis elected its officers for the fiscal year at a Tuesday afternoon meeting at the community home. All renewing officers were re elected. President Mrs. John A. Hull, vice president Mrs. R. Bay, secretary Mrs. T. M. Magee, and treasurer Mrs. Howard Fierce. Entertainment included a vocal solo by Mrs. Howard C. Elliott, with accompaniment by Mrs. Oo Quast, and afternoon tea served by Mrs. James D. At John, R. 8, Warren, A. C. Kimpton and Talbot.
Arthur Opp of Helena was elected president of the Montana Funeral Directors association at its annual convention in Helena. Butte delegates announced their return to the mining city last night. Opp succeeds H H Dokken of Bozeman. Other officers elected include Edward Wyse of Conrad as vice president, Ralph Conrad of Helena as secretary-treasurer, Fred J. Root of Butte and Frank Smith of Billings on the executive board. The Butte morticians were Mr. Root Hugh Daly and Sam White. The program featured an invocation by Rev. Earl Van Dorm of Helena and remarks by Mayor J Bausch of Helena and J R Retz of Polson on vital statistics and preferred claims. Sam White presided as toastmaster at the banquet closing the convention, which followed the state Institute for embalmers attended by professionals statewide.
Turlock merchant Henry Sonntag claims he caught a trout while riding along a stream. He says horseflies buzzed around the horse, he baited a hook with one and reeled in a trout from his saddle.
A feud between farmer brothers over farm land rights escalated as a lead-throwing confrontation left Dave Meharry of Outlook in hospital with bullet wounds to the back and neck. George Meharry and his adopted son Thomas are jailed on first degree assault charges. Thomas, 17, was arrested earlier on a shooting charge but released. Economic conditions in Portugal are improving.

Bozeman, June 23. Bozeman Canning Company opened its plant to pack the first batch of Gallatin Valley pens, earlier than any previous season. The Kilam descendants, about 250 people in all, held a family reunion at Frank Killam’s old homestead, purchased by Thomas Killam in 1701, with the Killams tracing origins to 1637 in this country.
A 16 year old boy, William Briken Bush, was struck and killed while seeking shelter under a tree on a golf course during a thunderstorm. He had been warned before play not to participate due to the storm, and his death comes after several similar days of weather.
