Miss Maurine Marris aged 35 from Bedal Mo was kidnapped by a man who released her at Higginsville. He fled with her automobile and her black chauffeur William Gray. She notified relatives by telephone from Wig Rinaville that she was safe.
Great Falls June 23 Sheelfird Shields says H B Lake a Great Falls broker is held in Tacoma on a charge of barbery as bailee. A Florida telegram said Lake is in custody awaiting instructions. County officials filed a complaint alleging misappropriation of a 609 Liberty bond with a $2000 bond. Lake’s daughter Mrs David Mortis, a Tacoma high school coach, resides there. Lake was later arrested on larceny by bailee but released after $2500 cash bail was posted by his son in law D Morris.
Butte June 23. M M Campbell of Pocatello Idaho was fined 40 dollars and sentenced to 30 days in jail in justice court for wholesale trafficking without a license. The jail term was suspended. Campbell faced the charge under the state's new license law for wholesale produce dealers.
In Madrid clashes erupted as thousands refused to remove religious banners on Sacred Heart Holy Day. Police orders to lower banners were defied, fighting broke out, shots were heard, stones and clubs used, and several dozen arrests reported. Cordoba also ordered removal of banners amid minor disturbances nationwide.
Anaconda June 23 The Montana Bar association’s 6th annual convention opened with Armour Corent Walls urging a halt to encroachments on the practice of law. He argued the statute may not ban nonlawyers from practicing, but asked for a ruling by the judiciary. Judge BooR supported tighter definition of who may practice.
In San Angelo Texas on June 23 a court accepted a guilty plea from an accused killer linked to the Montana gambler murder. The defendant admitted involvement in the shooting and aiding removal of a body found in the Pecos River area. A separate murder charge against another suspect was dismissed due to lack of corroborating evidence.
Livingston boosters invaded Billings for the Golden Anniversary parade and dinner. About 197 visitors attended a dinner and then paraded through the business district, celebrating Park County's founding milestone with bearded booted citizens in Western attire.
