Defense Wiese Wed Aids State in Shepherd Murder Trial
Chicago June 20 By Associated Press two defense witnesses in the William Darling Shepherd murder trial testified then were heavily challenged by the prosecution. Walter Smith formerly janitor at the National University of Sciences said no live germs were kept at the school yet admitted racks of test tubes that might have contained germs. Dr Frederick Tanner contradicted farman’s testimony but the cross examination shifted weight after questioning by Prosecutor Robert E B Crow. Defense chief William Scott Stewart sought an afternoon session to avoid weekend juror discussion, which Judge Lynch granted to preserve trial momentum.
