The meeting adopted resolutions pledging allegiance to the Lions code of ethics and to the organization and its officers.
Washington June 19 Observers note President Charles G. Dawes moving among farm relief agitators while inside his office. The farm relief atmosphere is described as pervasive and toxic to Calvin Coolidge who opposes such legislation. The piece hints at political strain since the Iowa senatorial primaries and forecasts continuation on page two.
Matt Statt president of the National Wool Exchange arrives in Montana and argues that world market conditions do not justify abnormally low wool prices here. Great Falls Montana July 13 AP two sales of oil land on the Kevin Durst field were concluded at Great Falls and Shelby. A 40 acre tract sold for 400 dollars per acre to F T Munger Tulock and D W Kenedy of Great Falls plus Eddle O Connell of Helena. A 120 acre tract bought from Adams Oil Co of Minneapolis by a newly organized Minneapolis group at 830 dollars per acre.
Washington reports show income tax collections for the quarter push the fiscal year surplus past 300.8 million dollars, the largest since 1924. Reduced tax rates helped, with June payments already over two million above last June and potential total receipts likely higher than last year’s 377 million. Officials refuse to confirm another tax cut despite healthy treasury finances.
Women of England marching from across the country gathered at Hyde Park London to press for peace through arbitration security and disarmament on a hot summer day. The McNary farm bill stalls pre adjournment action as Senator McNary failed to secure a roll call amid objections from Senator Willis. Swanson accuses Willis of filibuster links to rivers and harbors bill, while debate remains limited and unresolved.
In Colinevile on June 19, Haste with Marie Sanda aboard won the $26,000 Batre mount derby over a mile. Hagenbaggage and foot-to-foot finished second and third as entries from R. Session ends with no subpoena issued. hearings resume Monday with Wayne Wheeler the committees counsel.

Louis Mayers, a plum picker helper, shot his wife in a hospital room then killed himself with the same weapon. Police had searched for him all night. Mrs. Mayers, who had sued for divorce on cruelty and neglect grounds, will recover.
Cordova Alaska June 19 A small volcano two miles from the Copper River and North Western railroad northwest of Cordova was reported in eruption. Puffs of smoke were visible for 10 miles with extreme heat felt nearby Local reports of slight eruption in the region were ridiculed by officials.
Harry W. Johnson of Anaconda won the Montana American Legion state commander post at the eighth annual convention in Great Falls. He defeated Herbert Kibler of Havre and C. E. Larabie of Deer Lodge. Kibler later became vice commander.
L. L. Finch, a Brockway attorney, was beaten by four men on Main Street, then gagged and tarred and feathered in a country field. Warrants target Wendell August, Frank Palmer, Merla Clark, and C. C. M. Fasett for the assault. Finch’s counsel says motive stemmed from friction with August after a recent visit. He was left in a field and later found by rescuers.
Washington reports a LaGuardia demonstration mixing malt extract with near beer to create a “legal drink with a kick of 2.64 per cent.” The stunt drew swift criticism from the Anti-Saloon League while treasury officials said the high alcohol content makes it impractical for beverage use. The incident caused a derailment in Sandstone, Minn, but no injuries were reported as the train halted moments after the engine leaked.
