Fate of Petroleum County in Court
The Montana Supreme Court weighed whether Petroleum County was erased by a 1915 act transferring Fergus county townships to Judith Basin. The state argued boundary changes affect neighboring counties and cited constitutional limits, while Petroleum officials contended the act omits Petroleum and that abolishing a county lacks constitutional authority. The case was taken under advisement.
