Port Arthur Texas June 13 A tire at a tire refinery operated by a company injured two men and burned one possibly fatally. The blaze began in a treating unit and spread to five others with a blast in the agitators area. An unconfirmed report said three workers were near the explosion. The fire remained active late tonight and was not expected to be out until tomorrow. Leonard Watch of refinery management was listed in critical condition.
Behuyler Nebraska June 11 A Catholic priest Antone Folda admits operating illegal liquor stills at the rural parsonage. He pleads guilty in county court and is permitted to return home while awaiting district judge Mondy to pass judgment. He confirms presence of stills and sale of liquor to visitors at his home.
Washington June 11. William Green president of the American Federation of Labor told the House Judiciary Committee that unemployment at 9 609 000 is near a peak and Congress should grant relief. He supported Wagner bills to create a national employment system and expand public works, urging swift approval alongside Frances Perkins of New York urging villa passage. Green warned of poverty and crime from unemployment and noted hundreds of thousands loaf in parks awaiting work.
A plane attempting takeoff at Billings plunged 80 feet after striking elevated rocks. D Minamyer 36 died, two others injured. Pilot Major J Carrall and financier C Billings survived with injuries. the crash followed a failed ascent near Kaneay City.
