Supreme Court Limits State Tax Reach In Inheritance Case
The Supreme Court ruling regarding the Henry C. Frick estate decides states may tax only tangible personal property within their borders. The decision notes New York and Massachusetts property were taxed by those states, not Pennsylvania, and clarifies that inter-state transfers and stock values need proper deductions. The ruling emphasizes that estates taxed by a state must respect domicile and jurisdiction, avoiding extraterritorial reach.
