Kellogg Pact Gains Italy France Acceptance Reported

Washington July 15 AP The state department released tonight unqualified acceptances by Italy and France of Secretary Kellogg's renunciation of war as national policy. Officials welcomed their stance while declining to comment on replies. Germany has accepted. Britain expected to respond favorably this week. Mussolini's note, dated today, confirms careful study but is brief.

Fire destroys Helena business blocks in early morning blaze

A Helena fire starting at 2 30 a m in the Curtis cafe kitchen roared through the west side of Main to Sixth Avenue and spread to the east side. By 6 a m losses were estimated near 1 250 000 with buildings including the Granite Bailey Gold New York and Pittsburgh blocks consumed or damaged. Many stocks and furnishings were destroyed as residents fled in the heavy rain.

Gov Smith Holds Fire After White Attack

Albany July 15 Governor Smith plans to rest on his counterattack to William Allen White’s charge about his legislative record. He offered no new comments on the Hansay editor or Rev C R Miller who he says supplied White with what he claims is false information. White’s rebuttal on Smiths prohibition stance and Ale-Tammany link also failed to prompt a reply.

Lewis and Clark County Finances in Excellent Shape

Lewis and Clark county reports strong finances with reduced bonded debt from 575.00 to 360,000 in three years under the county commissioners chaired by Tom J. Cooney. The county operates on a cash basis with no warrants registered and a 1927 tax collection showing only two percent delinquent. The office of County Treasurer Ruege cites substantial road building and careful budgeting as factors, noting a June 30 1928 fiscal year total tax take of 952,782.67 and a July 1 cash balance of 237,061.47 sufficient to cover county operations until the 1938 levy.

High Grade Galena Strike Reported at East Pacific Mine

High grade galena ore was struck on the 800 level of the East Pacific mine operated by Montana-Idaho Mines near Winston yesterday morning. Gust Tarlson, the company’s general manager, brought ore samples to the offices. H. F. de Bower, president, and C R Brazier visited the site and expected the ore body to be reached within 48 hours from their visit. The strike is described as the most important in the mine’s history thus far.

Butte Woman Kills Self Amid Family Crisis

Inio Ibe, 21, a popular Butte woman also identified as Mrs Frank S. Skubitz, shot herself late this afternoon. Authorities say a divorce suit and domestic troubles may have prompted the act. She died at a local hospital within a half hour after the shooting, never regaining consciousness.

A 40 year old transient, Charles Carlson, died this afternoon by slashing his wrists with a safety razor in the Milwaukee railroad yards. No papers or money on the body. A search efforts to locate his relatives is underway. The death occurred about 4 3 near the yards.
