Washington July 13 A resolution proposing a constitutional amendment to repeal the 18th amendment was introduced by Senator Carter Glass Virginia. Glass, long a foe of prohibition, urged immediate consideration but was blocked by Senator Norris Neb. He said he would press the measure again. The amendment would let states permit liquor but ban saloon nightclubs, require ratification within seven years, and allow liquor sales in hotels and restaurants unless state law bans them. Others sought action and again faced committee opposition.
The Lindbergh household nurse Betty Gow will travel to Scotland for a lengthy stay to visit her mother and later return to service with Col and Mrs Charles A. Lindbergh. The plan involves a potentially month abroad before resuming duties.
A U S grand jury returned 71 secret indictments in about five hours. Judge George M Howratin presided as federal indictments were filed in the United States Marshals Service for seizure and processing of documents related to the case. The action followed Monday morning hearings and was continued on page 10.

Minneapolis July 14 The hunt for 20 month old Leslie Delano continued with renewed effort as more than 100 Minnesota National Guard men searched near the parents home in suburban Columbia Neighborhood, along highways into open country as the search extended across the area.
Mouston Texas July 13 John R Padgett 18 a high school senior and football captain jumped to his death from the 26th floor of a business building here. His mother Mrs T H Padgett told police he had learned that financial issues might prevent his going to college this morning.
Birmingham July 1 The Elks national memorial and publication commission reported at the 65th grand lodge convention that the past year ended with a surplus and substantial profit from the memorial building in Chicago and the Elks magazine. John K Coen disclosed 12 new lodge buildings costing 362205 were approved, and the Smyrna Florida team won the ritualistic contest.
Atlantic City July 13 The executive council of the American Federation of Labor announced plans to purge racketeers from its ranks William Green president said an investigation into racketeering charges was underway He pledged to root out graft from the federation and to reward clean service within the labor movement

Hanna, Wyoming July 18. A young woman faced two armed robbers at the First National Bank of Hanna. Alarm triggered. suspects fled. A posse captured Calvin Miller 34, Tackle Rose 22, and Ari Whitney 41 miles north of Hanna three hours later. Officers disarmed the trio and recovered their weapons.

New York July 13. Fire Commissioner Jobo J Dorman said a blaze destroyed four blocks of Coney Island boardwalk and left about 200 injured. Firefighters contained most of the flames though forty structures burned on the Atlantic shore and smoke hung over the resort.

Luna Angeles July 13 Evangelist Aimee Semple McPherson Hutton on her sick bed ordered a purge of 20 temple employees and promised more changes. She urged continued support for welfare activities amid graft charges raised by the City Social Service commission. Her husband David Hutton testified that several employees betrayed the temple. The commission said it would study food distribution under city permits, not the temple itself.
