Chicago records 33 heat deaths as a three day heat wave continues. A thunderstorm arrives late in the day but temperatures stay near 93 degrees by 4 p.m. with a prior record around 93.6. Prostrations and drownings in Ohio cited.
Commander Richard Evelyn Byrd and three companions land the America in Nor mandy after a perilous 42 hour flight from Roosevelt Field. Their three motor plane is badly damaged, crew exhausted, but all escape serious injury and are guided to shore by an emergency raft. The crew rests in Caen before Paris reception.
President Coolidge reviewed national business conditions with Mrs. Coolidge finding them satisfactory. Labor data show plentiful employment and increased post office stamp sales. Farm prices rise especially cotton and wheat while rail freight remains strong. He credits higher worker earnings for purchasing power and circulation. Invitations to events were declined as he could not speak at the 130th Benning anniversary.
City Prosecutor E J Lickley opened a campaign against alleged usury linked to the Julian Petroleum Corporation before its stock bubble burst. The complaints name Berlinstock a jeweler for $1,000 interest on a $10,000 30 day loan and L A Seavitt for about $3,000 interest on a $12,875 40 day loan.
Chicago reports that legalized betting on horse racing goes into effect today. The Lincoln Fields 37 day meeting begins Saturday and will be the first to operate under the new law and regulation system.

Fragmentary report from Ver-Surs Mer France on July 1 notes a watch, carried by Lieutenant Navillas, was smashed by plane impact and drenched by cabin water. The watch stopped at 3 30, suggesting a flight duration of 42 hours.
Rapid City dispatch notes Col. Charles A. Lindbergh has proposed sea landing sites and salt beacons in the Atlantic to aid trans oceanic flights. President Coolidge is inclined to consider the idea as an international proposition, with recent aviator feats cited at the White House as evidence of progress in air science. Montana directors are Worman Holter and Senator John W. Schnitzler with board drawn from St Paul Minneapolis and the two Dakotas. Hill, Shepard and others named as directors.
The Montana Federation of Ta bor laie yesterday after a four day session consolidated the office of president with that of secretary treasurer. EF. 11. Manson was removed from secretary treasurer and Stephen Ely was named executive president. Manson said he would run for the new office in September. Some delegates argued the action was illegal and urged a test.
New York hosts July 1 to 4 talks as Governor Montague Norman of the Bank of England and Reichsbank chief Walther Schacht arrive. Governor Benjamin Strong of the New York Federal Reserve and Charles Rist of the Bank of France meet the visitors as informal discussions on gold reserves movements foreign exchange and loans begin. No official statements are planned.
Anaconda July 1 AP lam en 4d Prince was instantly killed at 8 30 pm when his car struck a parked car on the Butte Anaconda highway seven miles east of us ey. Prince likely was thrown onto the pavement and died instantly. Six passengers in the other car were uninjured.
Cheyenne Wyoming July 1 The speediest method of delivering pioneer era and modern messages will be revived on July 11 72 when a calfskin message from Governor Emerson to President Coolidge is carried to the president. Twenty nine riders on swift ponies will relay the message along the Deadwood stage route with T J Cahill in charge. Governor Emerson will be flown to the president camp in the Black Hills and meet Senators Warren Kendric Congressman Winter and others before delivering the message at 2 p.m.
A detachment of marines was dispatched to Nicaragua under Brigadier General Fela to recapture a gold hoard seized by General Landing, former justice general, from an American in Nueva Segovia. The operation aims to recover the treasure and press the liberal faction.
News from Tutte reports no change as Anaconda and Butte daily newspapers remain absent for nearly two weeks. Anaconda and Butte Typographical unions were notified that publishers will arbitrate through an expired agreement. Printers have until 4:40 p.m. Saturday to respond. no reply received yet.

Liza Grey Chaplin filed an answer denying Charlies Chaplin's allegations in the crues complaint. She claims the charges rest on hearsay and cites an alleged July 1923 incident in a bungalow on Chaplin's Hollywood studio lot and other locations in California. She says she could not identify a certain young man named by Chaplin and defends her conduct as innocent.
The Hoeing Air Transport company launched westward service from Chicago Maywood field aboard a nine-cylinder Pratt Whitney engine aircraft. Miss Jane Eads, Chicago newspaper reporter, rode as the sole passenger. The flight aimed to reach San Francisco tomorrow at 4 30 PM Pacific time, about 22 hours 40 minutes after take-off.
