Washington Jan 26 AP The Red Cross has raised 2 125 400 of its 10 million drought relief fund with strong gains after a broadcast Thursday night. Friday contributions totaled 404 000 and more than 450 900 were reported Saturday. The drive received an 81 000 check from the Grand Lodge of Masons in Arkansas as drought-stricken states press for aid.
John W Brady, a former judge and noted appeals figure, today began a three year term for stabbing Miss Lehlia Wighsmith in November. The white haired ex-justice checked into a jail without guard or committal papers, his wife by his side, as warden W. W Wand noted Brady’s condition. Brady had pleaded temporary insanity due to chronic alcoholism at both trials.
Washington dispatch reports Senator Reed Smoot of Utah, aged 69, has contracted influenza and was confined to bed by his physician with strict orders to remain in bed. He becomes dean of the Senate after March 4 with Senator Simmons's retirement, and his illness interrupts his duties for an unspecified period.
Anton Creich, 65, longtime Butte resident, was found dead in a cemetery today with a pistol in his hand and a gunshot wound to the throat. Passing motorists reported the body to police.

St Louis Jan 25 AP Hugh W Thomasson 73 a capitalist is in dispute with his wife Grace Mayhood Thomasson 29 over their marriage. Attorneys clash over whether the husband was reconciled or forcibly kept. Thomasson sued for annulment two months after marrying Grace last September claiming he was hoodwinked into the ceremony.
New York January 25 Jewish leaders at a conference decided to launch a nationwide campaign asking American Jews to contribute 3 million dollars for reconstruction defences in Palestine. Morris Rothenberg was named directing chairman and a drive end date was set.
Sydney reports Dame Nellie Melba the famed opera star is seriously ill after landing in Fremantle and Melbourne hospitals. A New York dispatch reveals Capt William Cliett of a liquor boat slain during a chase by coast guard vessels off New Jersey. The Josephine K motor schooner carried liquor worth $100,000 seized with 15 arrests. Coast guard pursuit included blanks and solid shot as the Josephine K fled toward the opera. Continued on Page 4.
