Los Angeles January 17 AP The Chicago Bears vs Los Angeles in yesterday s exhibition netted Red Grange the largest purse of his professional career. Promoter Hatbriter said total receipts would reach about 135000 with Grange receiving between 34000 and 35000. Attendance was placed around 75000 to 76000.
A Washington marchers group from the National Woman's party delivered a plea to President Coolidge at the White House accusing officials of unequal treatment. Nineteen bandits attacked the Nev Henry Foppett and family, American missionaries of the Reformed Church in America journeying from Amoy to Lung Yen Chow. They robbed them of all clothes and valuables. one servant was shot and wounded. The missionary party was otherwise unharmed.

In Denver on January 17 AP reports the Western National Stock Show paused for an hour to honor the Sabbath. For the first time in 20 years of the annual Rocky Mountain event church services were held as an integral part of the show.

He notes Washington drank danced with Virginians and enjoyed women but argues swearing horse racing and card playing were not common.
