Governments failed to settle Lancashire cotton dispute as negotiations broke down. A general strike affecting about 250 000 weavers was set to begin tomorrow. Coal miners in south Wales voted to accept terms reached by representatives with mine owners, resuming work after weeks of idle time.
Missoula hosts the Montana Wool growers convention with over 30 delegates hearing Frank J. A Great Northern train struck a car in Stanford today, badly injuring the mother Mrs Nelson and Bruising her 14 year old son, while the baby suffered only minor scratches. The Nelson family resides on a farm near Stanford.
London January 16 The government released the text of a new electoral reform bill that would introduce proportional representation the greatest change since 1832 If passed by parliament it could secure liberal backing for continued MacDonald government as the Liberal party pushes for its adoption.
Blair Weldon, arrested on operating an illegal coast-to-coast lottery, faced a further charge of using the mails to defraud. Police say documents show extensive lottery operations under the pretense of aiding war veterans, with tickets distributed widely in the United States. Members of the American colony at Quavara escaped injury in the quake that partly demolished the city of 50 000 on Wednesday night. Mrs G W Thompson in Mexico City reported her house survived and became a temporary emergency station for the injured. The low ground areas suffered the worst damage while the death toll rose as reports came from outlying Indian towns with no telegraph. Thirteen dead and two seriously injured were reported. Homeless fill the streets as homes were destroyed.

The scene hints the sheet may be a spoof rather than a serious political document.
Frank J. Brown known as Sandbar Brown, a prominent Montana pioneer who arrived in 1865, died at 85 in Misacula. He mined for gold, served in a Richmond crack regiment, then as a Marine on the Powhatan. Body to be sent to Philipsburg for burial after 3 p.m. services at Episcopal Church.
