Senate adjourns over the weekend as the committee on bonds and allocations for state custodial and higher education institutions weighs salaries at the Greater University of Montana. Senator Pauline of Flathead calls for a report from the state accountant by January 19 listing all teaching staff salaries for 1929.
In a heated session the House yesterday approved a merged measure to unite Butte and Silver Bow County after a series of recesses. The bill underwent amendments, was reported favorably, and the report adopted. The cities and townships committee collaborated with the counties committee on the review and amendments.
New York on January 9 a court decision concluded a case involving Ida Iver aged 60 and Thomas Oliver aged 34. Physicians in the trial testified about an alleged murder of Mrs. Tare Eis 41 blamed on a heart attack triggered by their entry into Oliver's employment. Mamstrite Earl Smith discussed the murder counts.
R. C. Anew, 62, former bank cashier and land owner of Parma in New Madrid County Missouri, died at a hospital after injuries believed to be from an extortionist attack. The death follows a mystery surrounding the incident with limited details available.

In St John s Newfoundland on January 18 seven children, six girls and one boy, drowned when a gied broke through the ice on a river at Paint of Bay. The river swept them under the ice as they were carried along by the current.
In Los Angeles Colonel Charles J. Foss Jr. of New York and RCA photophone president died of a heart attack early today after an all night drinking party at a friend’s apartment. Police opened an alcoholism inquiry and an autopsy was ordered as details emerge from the hotel-style party.
Seventy five thousand pounds of dressed Montana beef and sixty thousand pounds of bologna from Butte will be sent to San Francisco this week to feed officers and men of the U S Navy. The contract, let to Vansen Packing of Silver Bow, marks the first time they supply the sausage and Bologna for the Navy. About 160 bulls will be slaughtered for the bologna. Continued on Page 1.
Portland Jan. 14 police say Irma Loucks and Nelson Bowles face charges in the stabbing death of Mrs. Bowles wife of the capital or, Mrs. Howard Bainles, wounded on the back porch. The assailant fled after a second attack as neighbors reached the scene.
Washington January 14 a proposed special reserve fund of 3 000 000 to aid farmers by deferring foreclosures. The plan would let Federal Land Banks draw needed sums to prevent foreclosures and would require approval by the Federal Farm Loan Board and Treasury Secretary action as if by any federal bank.
Armour company executive Chago White, 57, president, died after a fall from a bedroom window at his north side home. Coroner Reed and others ruled it an accidental death, noting he had been talking with White moments before. Continued on Page 2.
A national poll by NEA Service of about 1,500 daily newspapers shows 389 papers with 4.92 million circulation favor the Prohibition amendment as is, 345 papers with 12.52 million oppose, 38 favor modification, 87 neutral, and about 649 did not reply. The survey, read to about 69 million readers, follows a halted U S Prohibition Bureau poll and notes the controversy over enforcement and public opinion. Separate item: English actress Josephine Larkin arrives in New York after traveling 3900 miles to investigate her husband John Melivan's death, alleged to have resulted from falling from another woman’s fourth floor window.

Washington law officers report President Hoover signed a bill relaxing the Jones five and ten prohibition law for minor offenders. The reform limits penalties to fines up to 400 dollars or up to four months imprisonment for certain violations. The change narrows the scope of penalties for sellers of minor quantities of intoxicants under the old rule.
Italian seaplanes concluded a nonstop flight covering more than 6000 miles from Brazil to Italy. The craft landed at Orbetello after circling offshore for over an hour, touching down at 3 40 p m local time.
London reports a tentative deal ended a coal field strike after officials rejected defeat.
