In Flemington New Jersey on January 8 two men, a Spurland neighbor of the Lindberghs and a Bronx cab driver, identified Bruno Hauptmann in the Lindbergh baby kidnapping trial. One witness touched him and named the man, while the cab driver pointed him out and shouted. Condon, the ransom payer, later entered the courtroom as prosecutors pursue direct accusation.
The Senate plans action on a bill barring lawmakers who are liquor vendors from holding or being employed in any state office during their term. If passed an amendment may broaden limits to cover relatives and appoints, with leaders noting intent to curb conflicts of interest and prevent members from creating offices for salaries or perks. Agent Wile Tartison of St Louis captured another man and one of the women taken was Gibson s wife. The crime gang is blamed for the 200 000 kidnapping of St Paul banker Adaward G Bremer.
Governor Cooney addressed the Montana legislature delivering a concise message urging water conservation and a highway patrol system. The crowd applauded as he emphasized recovery needs and state progress. The joint session ordered 1,000 copies of the message for distribution. About 500 bills were expected, including proposals to abolish the honor permit system, advance old age pensions, and a six hour day law.
Ruth Kendall of Spokane, formerly married to Homer Rendall, was found dead in her Oakland apartment dressing room. The 11 year old son, John, discovered the body this morning. Kendall, who had been divorced last November, had been remarried recently according to reports.
