Theatrical world notes Billie Burke stars in the Paramount picture The Frisky Mrs Jolson at the Marlow today. Burke plays a Parisian widow with a serious arc as she tries to rescue her sister from disgrace risking the love she cherishes. Ward Crane supports as the leading man amid lavish Paris gowns.
Advance reservations by mail for Gila elever musical comedy at Marlow on January 12 exceeded all expectations. A second show named Evil House is predicted next Wednesday night. Ta Exton will play the Rainbow Fairy with Edith Grimes praised for her stage presence. Ruth Sprataville performs in a scene noted for its charm though some readers find it not worth the price of omission.
Pauline Frederick stars as Laura Bruce in a melodramatic plot at Antlers Theater. After a divorce and remarriage, Laura faces intrigue as Paul Ramsey and Turner schemes unfold. A detective plots danger, a mistaken encounter heightens tension, and Edna Crane’s confession seals Turner's defeat.
The Can vaddeville show last evening featured Ha mid's International Nine tumblers and Madame Bedini with trained horses in a close race for audience favor. The International Nine edged ahead slightly as both acts drew applause, with Bedini’s horses praised for exceeding typical expectations. Browning and Davis, the Sir Victor Dog and Pony show, and the Seerless Trio in Italian costumes plus Paul Rahn and Valerie Beck with Echoes from Woodland rounded out the program, pleasing young and old alike.
Janabe Mazandaralli, a Persian philosopher and Bahai disciple from Tehran, will give a free lecture at the City Auditorium tonight starting at o'clock. He travels the United States at his own expense to promote world brotherhood, universal peace, education and a universal language. Reeves was reelected president of the Helena Retail Merchants Exchange at a directors meeting held yesterday. W S Young was elected vice president, GV Wileen reelected treasurer, and R J Varovy chosen secretary. Weekly meetings were kept, and members were urged to attend. Discussion covered joining the state association and the benefits of individual vs exchange membership.
Wesleyan basketball players speed up for the season opener set for Jan 21 in Helena against Butte School of Mines. The team uses the public gym for practice on weeknights, has added several new players, and Dean Lemon coaches during Vandemark’s absence with the Glee Club.
The special committee on 1821 program work for the Commercial club met yesterday afternoon. After an extended session, adjournment was taken subject to the call of the chairman. The committee’s recommendations will be withheld until the annual meeting on January 1 at the Ely Rose Room. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. The committee is composed of Dr. G. M. Lanstrum, M. Gerry Jr, RD Iran, Aubrey Holter, CS Cain, Fred Naegele, W. T. Kuehn, Dilward Horsk y, F. S. Jacobsen, and David Perry.
