Riot in Scranton Ends as Police and Miners Clash
In Scranton Pennsylvania the first act of violence since the coal miners strike began occurred at Leggetts Creek colliery. Over 50 people fought six motorcycle police and eight truck drivers with clubs stones and missiles. One man was seriously injured and hospitalized. Several were arrested. The unrest ended after 18 minutes with police and drivers gaining the upper hand. The Red Cross announced soup and bread will be served daily to hungry children of striking miners starting next Tuesday in local schools.
