Great Falls police records show a 41 percent rise in drunkenness and related cases in the second year after prohibition began. Reports indicate 1,366 liquor related arrests in 1919 and 1920 saw 1,727 arrests, with fines and bail totaling $17,882 in 1920 and $22,745.47 in 1919.
Butte January report from Anaconda Copper executive John Gillie shows copper output at about 40 percent of normal. Normal copper is 25,000,000 pounds monthly. nine months’ production averaged 10,000,000 pounds per month. First quarter produced 19,000,000 pounds but not marketed. curtailment also affects zinc and silver. Silver byproduct remains, but copper shortfall endangers silver flow. no immediate resumption seen due to European demand slump post war.

Associated reports from Uniontown Pennsylvania describe Frante Pelone a stable boss finding dynamite in his hip pocket on January 2. While working in the stable the dynamite exploded when a mule kicked him, blowing Pelone to pieces and destroying the stable.
Lewistown January 2 Clayton Jackson age six or seven, son of Mr and Mrs John H Jackson of 122 East Broadway, was badly burned from head to foot when he poured kerosene from a full can into a coal range. Frightened by the fire he leaped through a front window into Spring Creek. He was treated at St Josephs Hospital for extensive burns and is expected to recover, doctor says.
News from Coburg reports a masked robber entering a quiet card game and demanding cash. John Forgey wrestled the gun away, causing the robber to flee. The next day the same man attempted a farmhouse hold up near Savoy, but Mrs Hewitt and a watchdog kept him at bay. No suspect identity has been found.
In Los Angeles and San Francisco, leaders of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks announce a substantial pledge to the Hoover campaign relief fund for central European children. The group reports a total subscription near 310,000 with many ElksWomen operating their own automobiles nationwide.
S Joseph, 45, formerly of Butte, was found dead in his car beneath a drainage ditch east of Willow Creek after failing to return from a New Year’s dance at Three Forks. Sheriff’s deputies and a coroner ruled death instant due to head injuries from the crash. He had lived in Willow Creek for three years and previously owned a small grocery near East Park Street in Butte. He is survived by a brother in this city and another in Alder.
