Rome reports Ti Giornale d’Italia accuses France and the Little Entente of undermining Geneva peace efforts. The fascist paper claims secret pacts among Italy’s adversaries reveal plans to occupy territory if aggression occurs, signaling deep Western European tensions.
Miami, Feb 26. Urgent reports say Mayor Anton Cermak’s condition remains critical yet shows slight improvement after another night of care. Doctors note he tolerated nourishment and rested, while supporters gathered outside his hospital room awaiting further updates.
Nyssa Oregon reports a family tragedy as a mother Cora Shafer and her six children die when their car leaves the road and sinks into a ditch six miles from town. The dead are listed as Cor Shafer 29 Jack 11 Charles 9 Rephert 7 Wandaly 4 and Lawrence four months. The widower Conrad Shafer is in a veterans hospital. Miami Florida February AP report states Senator Thomas J Walsh of Montana wed Senora Mina Peres Chaumont de Traffin of Washington and Warana and then flew by plane to Miami. The couple posed for photos and hinted at an indefinite plan for their future travel to Washington.
Onicaga October 26. County board considering 1833 World Fair appropriation. Commissioner Kelley proposed 510,000 to the commission, noting federal funds of 1,000,000. Dan Ryan objected, saying funds are needed for unemployed and invitations.
The Montana Senate this afternoon debated HOA No 49 to redefine real estate and improvements for tax purposes amid a fiery session. After nearly three hours the taxation committee backed passage. opponents warned of risks as the chamber pressed toward adjournment next Thursday March 2.

Kanaan City February 25. City women may have to go to court to obtain the right to wear trouser suits. Chief of Police Robert F B Phelan found ordinances prohibit appearing in public in any dress not belonging to N V D ersy. Before acting, he would have to hear complaints.
In Turin Oklahoma February a man named Tester McDaniel was shot after a bump on the head. Police report the bullet entered at the base of the skull and was removed from the wrist after medical treatment. The incident centers on a claim of a bump leading to the shooting and subsequent examination by physicians.
In Ryraciae New York on February 28 a lighthearted report describes a plan by dateless coeds to lure men into social events at sorority houses. The piece notes many girls have few or no dates monthly and mentions attempts to encourage dating through organized gatherings and social schemes among new students and sororities.

Police seek a young woman who may tell the connected story of a wild chase in Hallywood California early today ending in the deaths of aviator Glen Paul Rodgers and Richard Wells the Purple Mask robber. Rodgers was shot through the head by Wells then his car struck another vehicle and Moyle Wells was killed by a police bullet during the struggle. The affray began when Rodgers drove up in a police car claiming he had been held up and pinpointing the speeding robber’s car.
Paris on February 26 the chamber of deputies gave Premier Daladier’s government an 87 to 207 confidence vote on a proposal to reduce national defense credits by 20 million dollars. The senate had rejected in principle the large cut, voting only nominal reductions, bringing the question back to the chamber.
Eight progressive senators from both parties called for a national nonpartisan liberal organization to operate year round. Led by veteran Republican George Norris of Nebraska, the group urged Washington headquarters and executive and national committees akin to major parties. Senator Reed of California soon replied to the statement.
The House convenes at 1 pm with over 20 measures on third reading and more for general orders. Chairman Ray XII notes the budget balance while Shannon replies that House appropriations exceed estimates by 928000, with a potential surplus of about 76000 per the appropriations committee. Conference consideration was delayed to today under joint rule for Senate and House committee review.
San Antonio Texas February 25 AP Milton H W West Browns ville attorney led a nine candidate field in the first primary for the Democratic nomination to succeed John N Garner vice president elect. West held a straight lead as results came in from the Texas contest.
Washington discussions before the senate finance committee explore shorter work hours tariff revision and war debt relief to lift consumer buying power. Jenn Frank of Wisconsin urges tariff and debt adjustments to revive world trade. W W Atterbury of Pennsylvania railroad favors debt settlement budget balance sales tax and transport regulation. Matthew Woll of the American Federation of Labor is noted in the debate.
In Los Angeles on February 25 the Retail Merchants Association organized a downtown rally that drew about half a million local shoppers. An aircraft, operating off schedule, delivered over 400 pounds of tools and provisions to four isolated mining camps north of Las Vegas, snowbound for three weeks. Western Air Transport, hired by the American Red Cross, piloted by Jimmy James and James Roo, ferried supplies as residents welcomed the mercy flight.
