Elihu Root America's elder statesman and former cabinet member died in New York after a two week illness of bronchial pneumonia. He would have been 92 on February 15. Root was a diplomat, legislator and jurist known for international court advocacy and his conservative Republican stance.
Vittorio Mussolini eldest son of the Duce wed Orsola Buoy in St Josephs church Mussolini parish. Prener Mussolini and his wife attended along with several hundred relatives and friends. The couple will honeymoon in Italy then travel to the United States where Vittorio plans to study the film industry and pursue acting.
Fall Slow Memphis, Tenn., Feb. 6. The flood crisis worsened as Mississippi crests threaten miles of levees. Some 120,000 workers labor round the clock to hold back the river amid rising temperatures and possible rain. One affidavit is signed by Mrs. Lorna D Livermore, widow of Pilot Joe Livermore, who led a Northwest Airlines crash.
