Mob violence and religious clashes flare in Bombay as troops open fire on mobs. Hindu and Pathan groups clash near Mazandon court, with reports of killings and injuries amid rumors of child abductions and temple damage.
In Ynyaddu near Newport a crowd gathered outside a reopened colliery as only four men accepted work at 2 500. Police escorted the four men and charged the crowd, who hurled sticks and stones. Dozens were left injured with head and limb wounds. no arrests reported.
Lucerne Switzerland February 6 AP Minnie Hank age 77 famed American prima donna in the 1870s and 1880s died today. She was widow of Baron Ernest von Hesse Wartegg writer and explorer who died in 1918.
Mrs Hammonds, confidential secretary to Governor Johnston, resigns amid Oklahoma political turmoil. House committee probes her activities in the governor’s office tied to a contested impeachment charge from 1927. Clerk Mrs Wray says Hammonds was paid from an appropriation for a clerk. A boiler at the South Akron Firestone Tire plant exploded late tonight causing extensive damage and a fire. Ambulances lined the gates and one victim, Edward Ambergar, was taken to city hospital emergency ward as fire continued burning at a late hour.
Havre Montana February 6 AP report says the largest beer rectifying plant in the West was destroyed at the Montana hotel by customs officers. Alleged owner C W Shorty Young is in Honolulu. The act cuts off northern Montana supply of synthetic Canadian beer.
Senator Heflin vows to push a bill to ban flying a chaplain flag aboard battleships during church services at sea after the Senate rejected the measure 68 to 10. He defends Ku Klux Klan rights, claims the group did a noble job in the last campaign, and accuses public leaders of fear.
Col Charles A. Lindbergh landed at France field in Panama at 4 p.m. completing the first U S to Panama Canal Zone airmail delivery and announced plans to return to Miami Sunday morning. He departed Belize Tuesday nine ten a m, stopped at Tela Honduras and Managua Nicaragua then continued to Punta Arenas and David Panama.
The Senate will convene at 11 o'clock and the House at 10 a.m. The notice outlines the schedule for the legislative session.
Chicago Feb 6 AP the death of Mrs Selma Burnham in a million dollar slot machine business is being probed with a theory she was blackmailed into signing away her stake. Mary Doran a maid said Burnham’s 6 percent share was given to William T Riley after threats of disclosing her husband’s death. Burnham reportedly told friends she feared Riley would tell investigators she killed her husband.
Bozeman Feb 6 AP A longer water inundation of the Yellowstone trail between Logan and Three Forks due to an ice jam on the Madison river forced farmers from river bottoms while cattle moved to higher ground. Railway crews prepared to shoot the ice and highway patrol kept motorists off the two mile water covered section. Warmer weather and thawing culverts were seen as the only relief, with officials fearing cattle losses from confined overflow.
The Great Western Sugar Company is sued in federal court at Lincoln Nebraska with a charge of complicity to restrain trade. The action arises from a grand jury probe into plant construction cancellations and alleged underselling losses in 1920. The company calls the claim a misdemeanor related to alleged anti trust violations.
The senate opened a flood of measures yesterday with nine bills on motor vehicle law amendments. Substitute senate bill 7 proposing county commissioners lease county hospital buildings was recommended for passage. Senator Walker announced a bill to guaranty bank deposits. Mrs. John Herbers, 34, killed her two sons Walter four and Leonard two at their Halburt home near Carroll with a stove poker. Believed temporarily insane, she will be brought before the insanity commissioners for a hearing. She has been in ill health, physicians report.
American cattlemen at the American National Livestock association session in San Francisco announce plans to form a Washington organization to press for adequate protective tariffs on hides and meat. A voluntary subscription was taken to support the campaign.
Washington reports the cruiser bill, after two senate amendments, will return to the house as the first business of the day with a quick adoption expected. Speaker Longworth and Naval Committee Chairman Britten plan a motion for unanimous approval, with a fallback to a fast, nondebatable special rite if objections arise.
John T. Ritch of Lewistown appeared before a joint session to back a measure designating Charlie Russell as a distinguished citizen and to create a commission led by the governor to raise funds for a Washington statue. The resolution, introduced by Rep Sid Willis, aims to place Russell in the state hall of fame with a statue financed by popular subscription.

Washington Feb 6 AP Sweeping changes in the wool tariff proposed to the house ways and means committee by spokesmen for the American wool growers F J Magenbarth president of the National Woolgrowers association led the first of 50 witnesses in a hearing on the tariff proposal He urged raising the duty between 25 and 40 cents a pound on high grade wool while proposing a higher rate only for finer wools for 4s and coarser grades used in plushes and upholstering. The House in committee of the whole voted 64 to 25 to pass a tax reform measure aimed at changing classification and boosting state revenue. Rep Leavitt urged “do not pass” but his motion failed. A roll call followed. additional votes shifted the tally four in favor and five against. Debate featured Nagle Jameson Dellno and Shepherd for the bill against Leavitt Warren and Sample. Warren cited high wheat freight rates and warned railroads would raise charges if enacted. Continued on Page Three.
President Hoover plans to return to Washington days before his March 4 inauguration and will hold necessary conferences. He will not comment on cabinet nominations before they are sent to the Senate, and declines to address Manila statements by Henry L. Stimson about future posts.
