The Wisconsin Supreme Court upheld a district ruling finding that compelling a young girl to escort herself home in a white ride was a crime. It affirmed Judge Otto Briedenbach’s decision denying a writ of habeas corpus for James Ambrose of West Allis, who was sentenced to a year on a related complaint involving an 11 year old.
Portland report states an ice dam burst today on the Willamette River near Vancouver Washington, breaking and tearing a vessel loose. The Edwin Christenson, docked at the port terminal, rode the jam and narrowly escaped further damage as the ice moved downstream toward the sea. The river near Portland was clear besides large floating cakes as the flood risk eased after the jam broke.
A 16 year old Arkansas girl, Mary Grace Lowey of Fort Smith, and her mother Florence Lowey pleaded guilty to selling liquor to federal agents. Mary faces 15 months in a federal industrial school. Grandmother Mary J. Trotter of Kentucky is jailed in Hawkesville on moonshine charges as authorities prepare for federal court in Paducah.
In London the United States and Japan held high level talks at St James Palace and a 2 hour session, signaling progress. Delegations tackled ship tonnage and cruiser strength with focus on battleships and submarines. the US backs British limits on subs while seeking limited naval arms restraint.

Tarnmouth New London notes that the submarine P-3 ran aground a few miles south of Portsmouth harbor during a heavy storm. It remained aground about five hours before coast guard hero Mitchell Davis freed it shortly after 1:40 p.m. The vessel had struck near Quinine Point and the Wallis Banks coast guard station area.
Dunn entered a not guilty plea to a first degree murder charge in district court this afternoon. The judge set bail at $2,000 and a mistrial was noted as possible.

Redwood City Calif Feb 4 two masked bandits robbed the San Carlos branch of the Bank of America shortly after noon detaining assistant Forrest Laughlin with wire and binding him They extracted about 8000 in currency before fleeing the scene
