Flood waters forced residents from homes across Pacific Northwest towns as rain and warmth threatened more danger. Highways and railroads faced delays due to slides and wrecks, with towns in western Washington and northern Idaho evacuating as rivers rose.
A Christmas tree blaze at Jersey City’s largest hotel injured ten people today. Miss Helen Sullivan, 26, stayed at her switchboard to warn guests as flames spread and her hair and clothing caught fire. Hotel employees attempted to fight the flames with sand and water while investigators noted a delayed alarm. Two boys playing with fire started the incident. Continued on Page 2.

Great Falls Montana March 29 1921 officials announce action against persons who raided a local State Public Welfare board commodity office. A conference with county and federal attorneys will determine charges and jurisdiction while potential indictments target the raid leaders and the 100 raiders who escaped with supplies.
Joa Angeles December 29 Worth Clemens a man from Atlanta was sentenced to life imprisonment for the confessed murder of the woman he came to marry He sat in a wheelchair as the sentence was read his sister Mia Ambiter rushed forward and wept Clemens had come from Atlanta October 9 to marry her but she said she no longer loved him He shot her and attempted suicide in the process.

Treasury reports show about 77.5 cents per ounce, with a presidential proclamation expiring Friday. Titian believed the evidence shows reducing silver price would be dangerous and would not occur. He favored continuing the buying policy until June 20 1939 when the act expires.
Washington observers report naval experts speculating Congress may be asked to add 10 to 15 cruisers to the program after President Roosevelt’s concerns about world events. Wheeler opposes increased naval spending, arguing funds should go to irrigation, reclamation, flood control, and roads.

Earl Desgot Welter a Havre High School senior, 16, was found dead in the basement store room of his apartment building. His mother, Mrs. EH W Welter, discovered the body with a gunshot wound to the right temple. He was born in Great Falls on May 4, 1921, and the family moved from Butte in late November. The father works as a ticket agent at the Great Northern depot.
In Cali, Colombia, seven crew members were killed when three Cuban planes crashed during a goodwill tour to fund a Christopher Columbus monument. A fourth plane diverted to Panama. The wreckage fell high in the mountains about 13 miles from Cali, hindering rescue efforts.
