A sudden blizzard blanketed Helena and dropped temperatures to 10 degrees below zero. The weather bureau promised relief today as the cold snap ends, with possible snow and a return to milder weather after a record dry spell.
The Associated Press reports more than 400 lives lost during the holiday weekend with 344 blamed on traffic crashes. California, Illinois, Michigan, New York City, Texas and Pennsylvania show high counts. several states and DC report violent deaths across fire, gunshots, drownings, and crashes.
Rep. Martin Binh Teras charges the United States is being deluged with propaganda to involve the nation in the European war. He urges Congress to reaffirm noninterference and oppose entangling alliances while calling for a clear domestic and foreign policy. He criticizes Russia and England for pushing prowar campaigns and expects President Roosevelt's message.

On December 26 near Jericho rebels abducted Louie Le Bouvier, a British bank manager, as part of Christmas disorders in the Holy Land that left four dead and five injured. An RAF armored car found Le Bouvier’s abandoned car by the Jerusalem Jericho road as troops began searching the area.

Burial arrangements are pending.
President Roosevelt plans a double barreled defense message to Congress. He will report in a January 4 joint session a quadrupled military air fleet of about 19 000 planes and numerous other measures to counter rising threats from aggressor states.

A motorist swerved to avoid the dog and dragged her twenty feet. she died before an ambulance could reach the scene.
A harsh cold wave swept into the East and Midwest with heavy snow in parts. Temperatures plunged, with 40s in Nebraska, subzero in Colorado, Montana and Wyoming, and wind driven snow hampering travel from the Dakotas to Minnesota. Snow and cold were forecast across Tennessee to New England as rain aided winter crops in parts of Texas.
