Civic museum bid for Gilpatrick cabin on West Main

Nelena women campaign to raise 450 dollars to buy and deed the Gilpatrick cabin to Helena as a pioneer museum. A December 22 auction will decide its fate with 164 dollars already donated from an old chamber of commerce trust and local civic leaders coordinating the effort.

Gridiron Club Banquet Targets F D R and Chiefs

Washington, Dec. 17. Guests at the Gridiron club banquet heard a satirical survey of the fall elections and listened as southerners sang You’ll put you Yankees right. President Roosevelt appeared and was greeted by Ferdinand the Bull. The event mocked public figures at home and abroad, with remarks by Ickes, Dies, Dewey, Farley and others. Orson Welles attended as a Martian invasion theme teased the era. The 1935 setting featured a time capsule at the World’s Fair and mock exchanges about republicanism and future plans, ending with continued remarks on page 2.

Cleveland December 17. A quest for life’s spark led Dr George W Crile to Guatemala tracing a 1887 case from a streetcar crash in which intern William Lydman, a healthy student, died after leg amputation and shock. The surgeon sought what remained intact in life.
