A mother Mrs. Albert Gagne and her four children aged between 6 and 16 perished early today when their village home in St Michel de Wentworth HawkesburyOntario burned. The mother died of burns at Hawkesbury Hospital hours later. An overheated stove likely started the blaze.

In Manteo North Carolina on December five the wreckage of a heavy attack plane off Virginia Beach brought discovery of two bodies. Machinist Mate Troy W Manton from Lafayette Alabama washed ashore and Cadet J J Jones from Washington was recovered soon after. Jones had been a Montana State University student and athlete and was a former roommate of Tom Tobin of Selena. Cadet Jones had trained at Pensacola Naval Academy and played basketball and football at the university. Giles W Mead seventy one, a founder of Union Carbide and Carbon, died.
An Imperial Airways flying boat named Cygnus crashed after taking off near Arendal harbor on the Italian coast en route from India to London. One passenger and a crew member died, 18 aboard were rescued, including Air Marshal Sir John Salmond who was injured. The accident occurred at 24 m. local time and the cause was not yet determined.
