Memorial Coliseum Los Angeles Dec 3 Notre Dame's Rose Bowl hopes ended in a 13 to 0 defeat as Southern California Trojans toppled the Irish. Troy jumped ahead late in the first half and added a second score in the second half to seal the win before a record crowd of 101,000.
Sally Poor Clark, sister of Mrs. John A. Roosevelt, marries wealthy George McLanahan in Emmanuel church Boston. The 18 year old bride, in white velvet, pledged vows in a 20 minute Episcopal ceremony before family and guests. Afterward the couple left for a reception and planned a honeymoon to California and Hawaii.
President Roosevelt, tanned from outdoor life, plans to speak Monday afternoon at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill before a nonpartisan student forum. He met with Hopkins, WRAL administrator, on relief policy and will receive an honorary doctor of laws degree before the address. A Labor Board report cited 595 closed notices involving 184,488 workers in October, with 4,008 cases pending for November affecting 1,857,570 employees. New cases numbered 70 for 39,400 workers, including 373 claims of unfair labor practices. the topic of the speech remains unannounced.
Earthquakes rattled the San Joaquin district near Fresno on May 8 causing chandeliers to sway and dishes to rattle. No injuries or property damage were reported. Scientists estimated the shocks varied from five to seven intensity and measurements. Dr. Perry Byerts of the University of California said the quakes were independent events and not from a single fault.
Federal funds for highway construction in Montana are set to be reduced in 1940 by more than 3 million dollars, with specific cuts affecting the federal aid highway system, secondary roads, and trade crossing projects. New York, Dec 3. The Murphy baby died in a cold, foodless flat after the father refused to spend money not his. The couple lived rent-free in return for janitorial services, with a landlord waiting for rent. They are on relief and their bi weekly check has gone to bills. The mother Anna Murphy was feeling better today.
New York reports six radio stations refused to air Rep Martin Dies speech as head of the House Un American Activities Committee. WMCA WOR WIEN stations denied or unclear on time requests, WEAF WAC W324 offered no reply. Davis of American Defense Society pressed for names and access, promising future disclosure.
Bucharest Dec 3 Three confessed terrorist prisoners were shot and killed today in Juimanig's campaign to wipe out the fascist Iron Guard. Officials said 17 prisoners have been disposed of in four days after attempts to escape. Earlier, Cornely Zelvi Codreann and 140 sub leaders were shot during transfer to Bucharest for questioning. The German minister to Bucharest was ordered to Berlin to report on Romania’s internal situation.
A 92 year old reminiscence recalls the first wagon entering Montana led by Joseph Lomphrey and companions including Jesuit priests and two French Canadian brothers. The expedition traveled from Bear River through the mountains and timber to Fort Owen, touring the Bitterroot and Blackfoot country amid awe at the sight of the new four wheel vehicle.

Detroit, Dec 8 General Motors Corp sent a telegram to United Automobile Workers demanding immediate cancellation of a strike at the Fisher body plant in Flint Michigan. GM says union action violated its agreement by authorizing the walkout. Failure to settle soon could idle GM workers next week. Telegram signed by C E B Wilson GM vice president.
A large transport plane carrying 24 aboard, including passengers and crew, went down about 10 miles south of a local area in fog and mist. The pilot landed the aircraft in a corn field without injuries, near a road with power lines.

Ice coated streets last night caused hazardous driving with at least one serious incident. Susan Cervelli, 11, was struck near Sixth and Main by a car driven by Mrs. H W Walker. Cervelli suffered scalp lacerations and bruises, was treated at St John’s Hospital and released. Minor accidents were reported but caused only dented fenders as street crews spread sand early morning.
Chillicothe Ohio December 3 Robert Bready 28 charged today with killing his father Dr Russell H Bready a Methodist minister Bainbridge Ohio He told jailers I feel pretty bad about it arraignment set for Monday Prosecutor said Bready admitted the slaying nine hours after the body was found He claimed they argued during a walk to sob er up and that he was morally certain they fought and he shot his dad He was treated earlier at Toledo State Hospital for insanity and had been an inmate there The case hinges on whether the murder degree will be upheld or reduced due to his condition
