Reserve Feed 15 Necessary in the North Montana Plain

Bozeman reports that maintaining an adequate reserve of feed is essential for safe beef cattle ranching in the northern Great Plains. A State College Extension survey in cooperation with the U S Department of Agriculture warns that buying high priced feeds is risky during shortages, while preserving feed reduces losses and sustains cattle condition. If feeds are scarce, ranchers should sell excess cattle to protect others and leave feed for winter. this acts as insurance against a poor 1926 hay crop. Buyers favor ranchers who cull off type cows and use well suited bulls, ensuring repeat purchases due to reliable calf quality.
