Dyersburg Tennessee August 25 Army airmen parachuted to safety after a fire erupted in one engine of a Fortress during a routine flight. Pilot Second Lieutenant Robert H. Gratton of Rochester New York and co pilot Second Lieutenant Ralph W. Wile of Plainville Indiana attempted to extinguish the blaze. The plane landed at about 5,500 feet as they struggled to control the fire before abandoning the ship.
