A party of about 250 from Binghamton on the steam yacht Farrington and Josephine bound for Kingston were jolted when the Josephine sank in eighty feet of water after tow rope entanglement. Five ladies drowned. divers arrived to recover bodies as other boats aided in the rescue.
Doc Middleton the cattle thief was captured with his wife in a Guep canyon near the river after detectives and soldiers located his camp about 200 miles west of Columbus Nebraska. Richardson and five gang members were captured under threats of hanging and Middleton was found severely wounded from a recent fight.
General Miles reports Sitting Bull’s Sioux band retreating northwest to Wend Mountain after scattering property along the route. Territorial lawmakers authorize issuing bonds not exceeding seventy thousand dollars on January 1 1860 to fund redemption of outstanding ten percent bonds. Bonds issued at par with 7 percent interest payable in New York for principal and interest, sinking fund provisions, and strict tracking by treasurer and auditor. Approved July 21 1879.
