Washington April 16. Postmaster General Farley announced that efficient Republican postmasters will not be removed until their four year terms expire. He said incumbents loyal and efficient will complete their terms, and the department will not abandon competitive examination traditions. The policy covers postmasters. actions on other federal offices remain undecided.

Washington April 16 Senator Huey P Long charged that European powers aim to keep the United States on a gold standard and depreciated currencies to raid world markets. He urged his silver purchase plan or Wheeler’s free silver proposal as inflation foes press a Senate test vote. Long said foreign leaders first resisted talks but now reverse, signaling shifts on currency and trade talk plans.
Anoka Minnesota April 16 authorities recovered securities valued at nearly 81 million including 10 thousand fines and stocks stolen from Cold Spring Brewing Co after robbers dynamited a vault. The loot, found along a creek by A R Mann and his wife, is largely recovered though old bonds and $750 in beer stamps remain missing.
Reports from Shanhakwan say two Japanese infantry brigades pushed from Thitansing and occupied the Chinese portion of Puning after a four hour battle. The operation targets a buffer district east of the Tava river, with further fighting reported 12 miles southwest of Taitansing and 20 miles south of the wall as Japanese forces advance toward Tungping.

Detroit April 16 Fifty persons were injured twenty eight seriously when a two story brick building exploded near the business district. Police arson squad indicated rasaline as a possible cause and detained Florence Pelzzano and Tom Constantino. Firemen recovered none of the missing occupants as debris filled streets and hospitals took in the injured. Mrs Pelzzano said her husband may be in Buffalo or New York. Police continued to search as rain paused the scene.
New York on April 16 the Joint Committee for Abolition of Sweat Shops chaired by Mrs. Franklin D Roosevelt announced plans for a nationwide campaign to label garments as quality when made under decent work hours and fair wages. The committee formed April 11 includes garment employers, the International Garment Workers Union, and leading women's organizations.
