London April 14 British government orders holders of 52 United States stocks and 3 percent bonds to sell to the treasury to raise dollars for buying planes and war materials. Stocks must be transferred to the Bank of England forthwith paid in pounds at the official rate 94.03 to the pound. The step widens British holdings on Wall Street and follows a Feb 8 order requiring 60 stocks to transfer.
Boteman April 14. D N Tip Reynolds editor of The Pink Reporter is jailed awaiting arraignment on four complaints signed by Governor Roy Ayers. The warrants charge Reynolds with defaming Hen Maultan, Grass Range, Herbert Haight Fergus County state agent, and Dale Woods Judith Basin senator. Bond set at 3000 dollars.
Voters must register at the clerk and recorder's office to vote in two Helena elections. One asks if the city should adopt aldermanic government. the other seeks approval of a $40,000 bond for Helena High School vocational department expansion. Only property owners on the school district tax rolls may vote.
Flint April 14 John L Lewis, head of the CIO, is accused by William Green of secretly plotting to crown himself dictator of the United States. Green calls Lewis a threat to democratic order amid interunion political maneuvering and a push for national relations elections. Green also criticizes CIO ties and urges leaders to explain alleged plans.
Los Angeles reports a two day heat wave ending with a high of 78 in the city after two days of 96 in northern California. About 370000 people crowded beaches seeking relief from the late season heat.
Moscow April 14 Soviet news agency reports the Finnish Russian frontier commission has fixed the new boundary line between Finland and Russia and completed the demarcation work.
Stockholm reports British mastery of Narvik with German ships sunk and troops possibly landing after a naval strike. Swedish dispatches note Norwegians disarmed 3001 soldiers near Halden’s border and intense fighting across Skarnes Elverum and Myson sectors with German forces briefly advancing at Hidsvold.
