April 24 Mitte reports Silver Bow County spent 1 159 62 3 to run county government in the year ended November 30 1920. Operating costs exceeded revenue by 147 597 81, while total revenue was 1 012 264 50. The portion for the poor sick and widowed mothers nearly reached 30 percent of the 298 460 47 total.
Butte April 144 County Auditor Sullivan will urge county commissioners to drop at least 25 widows from the pension fund after affidavits from nearly 20 widows. About 368 widows remain on the roll. many payments may be reduced as some children have reached the statutory age and qualify no longer. In 1920 the county paid about $125,000 in pensions. current estimates suggest annual savings near $10,000 to $14,000. Warrant issuance will await lawful affidavits and compliance.
Missoula on April 4 17 men were arrested on vagrancy and begging charges after a roundup led by Chief Moore and Officers Ross Meil and Neil. McCarthy carried a gun and was among the detainees as complaints about mooching prompted action to curb undesirables.
Lewistown April 4 In courthouse circles officials discuss how Banner county could be financed if the Helena Supreme Court rules in its favor in the pending decision. The rese dition of Banner county differs from Judith Basin county due to unforeseen circumstances in the past three to four months, including its creation during the fall.
Beginning last December a feverish effort to gather 1920 taxes failed, leaving Fergus and neighboring counties with depleted funds. Delinquent Fergus taxes, crop reverses, and the split creation of Judith Basin and Danner counties worsen cash flow, threatening county operations and potential bond issues or bank financing to cover warrants. Authorities in Geraldine and Denton watch the crisis as funds in general accounts near zero.
Havre April 14 A telegram from Congressman Carl W. Riddick says physician Doc Foss has been paroled. It is expected he will arrive home within a few days. In Great Falls a rancher Sylva Dupata, 27, was killed this morning when trampled by a horse.
Missoula date April 14 Silas D Allen 49 died two hours after being kicked by a horse while stopping a runaway team at his Turah area farm. His wife survived with two daughters Hazel and Julia and a son Earl. He was born in Wisconsin lived near Turah since 1897.
Billings two youths Lyle Relden and H R Putnam are jailed in Columbia awaiting district court in felony case. Arrested Monday by Gane Warden Al Holmes, they are to be tried April 27. pistols found, no explanation for carrying. Putnam’s brothers reportedly died in the war. Neighbors say they dynamited fish in the Stillwater River vicinity five miles north of Columbus.
Great Falls April 14 A two year old collie named Ted beloved by neighborhood boys at Maroney park died after a poisoning incident. Ted had been a wrestling partner on the park lawn and a favorite among youngsters and even appeared in motion pictures with the park to park highway tour. The dog’s death followed a scene of boys mourning and whistling at dusk as they recalled their playmate.
Butte officials report a government wide check on the volume of franked matter and its cost. Postmaster Phil G Goodwin notes the study will track pieces sent, weigh daily mail by district and division, and determine the average cost of transmitting government mail.

Chinook, April 14 A despondent ex serviceman named Howard piabesis died after a self-inflicted throat wound. The victim, Roberts, aged 3, lived south of Chinook with his father and a brother Eugene. He had served a year in France and his funeral Thursday will be under the auspices of the American Legion.
