Washington April 14 AP The inter vital element of the Roosevelt program embracing mighty development of the Tennessee Valley was dispatched by the administration urging greater housing and regional projects in the valley amid calls for federal action and economic stimulus.
In Sacramento California a couple were found shot to death in their downtown rooming house near the business district. The victims were identified as Mrs Ade line Barybagelata and Frank Pasqua, connected to local figures and previously living in Scranton PA.
Helena notices list Jack Higgins Wilbur Warnweig Carl Weiss Anton Mann as applicants for beer licenses. Proprieties Higgins Cigar Store Montana byles and others are named along with venue addresses and proposed outlets. Continuing page 21.
Five people died and five were injured in fires in San Francisco. A home and an apartment were destroyed. Victims include Mrs. Mary Duncan Spaulding, 28, Lyle I. Spaulding, 11, and George Milymaki, 42 in the apartment. Miss Annyholmat, 27, and her brother Vagine Oltniat, 15 in the house.
Bogota reports more than 90 killed and 100 injured after a train wreck at Venlaquemada. Four passenger coaches were destroyed in the disaster. The cause remains unclear as dispatches arrive from the area.
In Phoenix, Anne Winnie Ruth anew trial on a murder charge for Agnes Sine Lenek was rejected by the state supreme court which declined a new trial motion. In Bucharest on April 10 the parliamentary rostrum was wrecked during a heated session over the Skoda munitions affair. A fistfight broke out as opposition deputies alleged TuManian military secrets were leaked to foreign powers via a Bucharest agent of the Czechoslovakian Skoda company.
Desenzano April 10 AP reports speed pilot Francesco Agella set a world seaplane speed record aboard the Red Hullet, achieving an average of 426.5 miles per hour over Lake Garda. The former record holder was Lt. George Stainsforth of England at 408.8 mph in 1931.
Missoula April 19 Six teen thousand men located in AO camps of 200 workers each could be effectively met under the Conservation corps plan regional forest service officials told Washington directors. If adopted about 1 200 000 will be spent for care of the men at 50 cents per man daily. Man days of labor over five months would total 2 409 000. The figure followed a conference to prepare estimates for Washington. The largest item of work would be the blister rust contract in which 6 009 men or 40 camps would be used in the white pine section.
Three Cedarville fishermen, Allie Baker Charles Baker and Harold Beach, drifted on ice floes in Whitefish Bay near Sault Ste Marie as Coast Guardsmen prepared to launch surf boats from Whitefish Point and Dollar Settlement to aid them.
Great Britain France and Canada accepted President Roosevelt invitation to Washington for economic talks. Most other invited nations indicated acceptance, deciding which officials to send. Herriot, former French premier, will go as a free agent, departing mid April to join discussions.
Residents of Rockaway Oregon report a large meteor entering the ocean last night near April 10. Witnesses described a burst of countless pieces upon impact but heard no explosion.
Rome April 10 Franz von Papen vice chancellor of Nazi Germany conferred with Benito Mussolini for half an hour. Hermann Goering arrived in Rome by air. Von Papen discussed German Catholic relations with Cardinal Pacelli and was later to meet Pope Pius. Observers expect talks on church state ties and possible shifts in party alignment.
Vienna April 10. Announcement says Chancellor Engelbert Dollfuss will fly to Rome Tuesday morning to meet Premier Mussolini as Von Papen and Goering attend. Rome seen as a new axis in Timlo German and Austro-Hungarian revisionist discussions.
Los Angeles April 10 Luella Hammer forty five was convicted by a jury late today for participation in the stabbing of her elderly wife of Dean Walter. The trial featured interruptions by the defendant and a mental state plea. A verdict was returned with a request for the insanity plea to be entered, and the defense asked for a sentence from ten years to life.
