In Tamblorn area near Tarleborn Oklahoma a running gun battle ends with the slaying of EB A. Kelly former sheriff of McIntagh county as Floyd and tenant George Birdwell are pursued by detectives. The shooting occurred as Kelly confronted a halted automobile and was shot in a lane near the Hargraves home.
San Francisco April 9. A recommendation on Tom Midoney's pardon application has been completed by former California Supreme Court Chief Justice Matt Sullivan for submission to Governor James Rolph Jr. Sullivan and the governor held talks, and Sullivan said he finished examining the records and would report Monday.

Berlin April 1 Dr Hans Faber president of the Reichsbank narrowly escaped a shooting on the Wie Potsdamer station platform. A bullet grazed his coat sleeve and struck a railway worker in the heel. The assailants Mas Rasen and Werner Kortscher surrendered and claimed opposition to deflation policy and a demand for a controlled intervention. Cooler Liher, about to depart for Basel with German officials, remained composed and boarded the Basel express after police took the pair into custody.
Washington April 9 Alfred E. Smith says his candidacy for the presidential nomination is bona fide and not a stalking effort. Roosevelt supporters report encouraging signs from recent Wisconsin and New York wins and from Governor Albert C. Ritchie's urging that Democrats back the strongest man at the convention. The Smith camp stalls while Roosevelt backers push forward with renewed momentum.
New York April 9. Gov Franklin D Roosevelt and former Gov Alfred E Smith shared the stage at the Catholic charities appeal launch. Roosevelt praised Smith as a distinguished predecessor in the cause of charity. Smith expressed gratitude for the compliment.
Rome reports that Fascist Italy may withdraw from the League of Nations as the Grand Council meets to examine Italy's position in October in a sign of ongoing discontent with French leadership within the League and Mussolini’s dissatisfaction with international conferences.
President Hoover and the House economy committee tentatively agreed on a national economy program aimed at saving from 160,000,000 to 219,000,000 in 1938. Additional retrenchment proposals could raise total savings to about 300,000,000. Key points: five-day week for per diem workers and furloughs without pay versus an 11 percent annual cut with a 1,000 exemption.
